Offerman Incident Brings Back Memories

First of all, sorry it's been awhile since my last post. I did not mean to disappear like that, I've just been busy trying to keep us on track for the playoffs.

I saw the post about Jose Offerman's meltdown. Wow. I've seen a couple helmet tosses at pitchers but I've never seen the batter carrying a bat.

Actually, the best brawl I've ever seen was when I was in AAA. We were in Salt Lake playing Iowa. Brendan Donnelly hit a guy, he was probably 6-5, 230, a big old dude. And Brendan is a big boy too. It was a train wreck at the mound. It was a real brawl, not one of those shoving matches you see. This one lasted 20-30 minutes.

I kind of knew it was going to happen. The guy had hit a couple of home runs off of us and was doing a little bat tossing, jogging around the bases, that kind of stuff so we knew it was coming. I was in the middle of the first pile. There were three different brawls going on at the same time. I got my pants ripped up and had a few bumps on the back of my head from being in the pile.

The worst thing for me was that it was in AAA and I always had a hard time finding pants that fit me there. I ripped my gamers from the knee down, someone must have been kicking me so they got cut up pretty good.

This brings up a question I've wanted to be answered for a long time. What's the deal with the "unwritten rules" of baseball?. To me, it just seems childish. If someone homers of of you, it seems to me I'd rather try and get him back with a K, and not give him a free base. If a player homers off of you, he has the right to do whatever he wants and if you don't like it...then don't let him get on base again. But that's just my perspective and I would love it if you could explain this to me.

It's kind of like fighting in Hockey. Why start something when it's going to result in your team being short-handed? Just part of the game I guess.

It's usually not just because they hit a homer....but because they showboated or watched it.....bad baseball etiquette....lol

Classic stuff John, I always think of the Nolan Ryan-Robin Ventura Brawl & the Chan Ho Park flying round-house kick...two beauties

Maybe the Tampa Bay Devil Rays will sign him now to help mentor Delmon Young on the art of Bat swinging brawls,

You know pitchers need to be put in their places sometimes John... but bringing the bat with you might just be a step too far. Anyways nice season so far John, 15 wins is impressive.

Makes you happy, I bet, that Jason Kendall didn't come at ya with a bat when y'all got into a tussle last year.

fighting's never good

That's the difference between a Triple-A fight and a Major League brawl. Can't get a new pair of pants in the minors.

That's the truth bro!

I would rather you be lax in blogging and focused in your pursuit of another ring anyway! But I do appreciate you taking the time to write this stuff. Keep up the great work Big John, with the mound and the keyboard!

Good luck in Boston Big John, I'll be watching.

I can see you ripping the head off some piece of "meat" that thinks you threw too close. The plate belongs to the pitcher, we learned that at Cal St Fullerton. Augie would spit on us if we did not keep the batter off the plate. The Boston series is HUGE. Get us off to a good start this morning and plug somebody if you have to. This game is for big boys and not pussy's like some of the sox. Remember, The comments that Mathews made will have them hot to shit.

You need to fight again, you owned Kendall last year, I fake sicked so I could stay home from high school to watch that game, next time you face the Red Sox throw it at David Ortiz's head and then pound his fuckin' ass. Then maybe ESPN will actually cover us.

I think I'll stick to pitching instead of fighting, I think my career will last longer. Thanks for reading the blog.

John Lackey is the bomb !!! I would take him and donnelly on my side in any fight....Lackey is first class ballplayer..Loved working the Pro-Player camp with him and Donnelly in Hilton Head..Lackey you need to speak at my coaching clinic in December in New Mexico...I'll take care of the golfing !!
