Found July 26, 2008 on Lansdowne 9:
The second half is well upon us and it seems that the New York Yankees are looking to crash the party atop the AL East. After a mediocre first half of baseball, the Bronx Bombers have won seven-straight ball games, trailing the East leading Rays by just 3 games heading into the second game of a three-game weekend series with the Boston Red Sox. It seems as if the Yankees are preparing to make a strong run at the pennant, acquiring outfielder Xavier Nady and left handed reliever Damaso Marte from Pittsburgh in exchange for reliever Russ Ohlendorf and three minor leaguers. Of the minor leaguers, Jose Tabata, a highly-regarded outfielding prospect, is the most prominent name of the bunch. [...]

The Boston Red Sox yesterday announced several new amenities for fans visiting Fenway Park to usher in the second half of the 2008 season. These amenities include improvements to existing facilities and introduction of brand new items in the ballpark concession stands, entertainment options in the concourses, family-friendly initiatives, and the official grand opening of The Bleacher...

An Open Letter to Manny Ramirez

July 27th, 2008 Dear Mr. Ramirez, I've long admired your ability to hit a baseball. In my book, you will go down as one of the most feared and productive hitters in baseball during your sixteen major league seasons (1993-present). It is impossible to argue with the .312/.409/.590 - yes that's an career OPS of .999 - the 509 home runs and the 1667 runs batted in. Your...

Madonna masks at Fenway tonight

This trend doesn't seem to be going away. SoxandDawgs has unveiled the Madonna mask just in time for tonights game at Fenway. Will Alex Rodriguez actually be phased by it? I highly doubt it. But it will be fun nonetheless.

Yankees make their move

Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte, two of the biggest remaining prizes in the baseball trade market, are New York Yankees. I guess that answers the question of whether or not the surging the Yankees would go all in to try and make the playoffs in Yankee Stadium's final season. Chalk up a win for GM Brian Cashman [...]

The Villification of Manny Ramirez

First he assaulted the Red Sox traveling secretary, then he "intentionally" took 3 straight k's with his bat on his shoulder as "retaliation", and now Red Sox management thinks Manny lied about an injury to take a couple of days rest. Today Theo Epstein voiced his unhappiness with Ramirez when he said the Sox are open to trading him if he waives his no...

Sandlot Baseball Becoming Extinct?

The Globe and Mail has a rare baseball feature on Sandlot baseball, a slice of American life enjoyed for decades by boys from coast to coast that appears on the verge of extinction.

Nady Trade Reconfigured

According to Pete Abe, the last two players in the trade for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte are not Phil Coke and George Kontos, but Jeff Karstens and Dan McCutchen. I don't like this trade as much anymore, but I still like it a lot. McCutchen will end up being better than Coke and Kontos, but Karstens is basically worthless.

Here We Go Again: Manny to be Dealt?

Prior to today's ballgame against the Yankees, Boston GM Theo Epstein told FOX analyst Tim McCarver that the club would try to trade OF Many Ramirez before the July 31st deadline if he would waive his no-trade clause. If true, this could dramatically shift the balance of power in the American League.

PRESS AVAILABILITY with BIG PAPI

Newly registered voter David Ortiz says Obama and McCain are just like the Red Sox and Yankees.

How about a little credit for Joba, Mo?

Jeff Rosenfeld, our new Red Sox writer, seems like a good guy and is dedicated to keeping Bugs & Cranks readers up to date on his team. I have to take Jeff to task today, though. C'mon, Jeff, the Red Sox get beat 1-0 because of a brilliant pitching performance by Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera [...]

MIC'D UP! with JONATHAN PAPELBUNS

"Papelbum" stokes the rivalry further by questioning the Yankees new, extra macho, theme song.

Karstens and McCutchen In Nady Deal

Last night's deal which sent Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte from Pittsburgh to the Yankees was incorrectly reported. Jose Tabata is still the centerpiece along with Ross Ohlendorf, but Jeff Karstens and Daniel McCutchen have become Pirates as well. The reports made the rounds before the Yankees announced anything official. Phil Coke, who was originally reported as being part...

Robinson Cano For Derek Lowe And Matt Kemp?

Just the title of this post alone should be enough to drive any Dodger fan insane, but i'll quickly touch on the rumor anyway. MLB Trade Rumors has the details: "Dodgers have an interest in Robinson Cano and might be willing to deal Derek Lowe and outfielder Matt Kemp, but the Yankees aren't inclined to part with the red-hot second baseman unless there is a front...

Everybody Hates Manny

It was just a few weeks ago that Manny Ramirez shoved Jack McCormick to the ground, causing a small amount of outrage across Red Sox Nation. I semi-defended Manny, writing this: "Somehow, one minor misstep has turned him into a villain nearly overnight. Personally, I hope Manny stays in my life forever. Yeah, his personality is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma pasted on a rubik...
