The day after arbitration filings in MLB were released (see details on the 111 players that filed), two more players have signed deals avoiding arbitration. The signings bringing the total to 3 after Kevin Youkilis reached his 4 year, $40 million deal, that also includes a $13 million option year, with a $1 million buyout provision. Lefty reliever Darren Oliver has reached a 1-year, $3.655 million deal avoiding arbitration with LA Angels. According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, Oliver's agent, Mike McCann of the Franklin-Frye-McCann group, confirmed the signing. Oliver comes behind only the Reds David Weathers as the player with the most ML service time of this year?s salary arbitration filing players (13.127). The signing leaves Macier Izturis, Mike Napoli, Robb Quinlan, and Ervin Santana as players left for the Angels in salary arbitration. Also, the Philadelphia Phillies began chipping away at the league?s largest number of players that filed for salary arbitration. The 2008 World Series Champions avoided arbitration with pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs by signing him to a two-year, $2.5 million deal. Dobbs will earn $1.15 million this year and $1.35 million in 2010. He earned $440,000 last season.
