I seem to be going against the trend here, but as I see it, one more bat will make a difference for this team. I'm not in a panic over being swept by the Phillies, in fact I've been saying for almost a month that this would happen if Omar didn't act swiftly to acquire an offense player. In my opinion, there were too many injuries for this team to "survive" or "tread water" until the injured return. They would rely on players not ready for the majors, role players would be exposed and the few regulars left would press. While they played well initially, I warned against that false sense of security and implored them to get somebody early. Atlanta made a smart move on June 6th when they traded for Mclouth, not only did they buy when it was a buyers market but they also did so before they appeared desperate. Two weeks later, it was to late, the leaders came back to the field and the Mets had two more injuries. Suddenly the message went from we're...

News On Reyes and Beltran
David Lennon, the New York Mets beat writer for Newsday on his twitter account has some news on Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes and it’s not good, not at all. On Reyes, Lennon says:
“Reyes back in NYC. Got another cortisone shot. Shut down again for a few days. Not good.”
On Beltran the news is not [...]
Omar knew Carlos Delgado would go down ?
I have a real issue with the belief that Omar knew Carlos Delgado had a hip condition and may be lost to injury.First of all, I thought it was a good idea for the Mets to pick-up Delgado's option and flip him to an AL team looking for a DH ( Angels) but when Omar kept him, I really couldn't blame him since the contract was cheap for what he provided last year. However, if...
Mets send four to All-Star Game, David Wright and Carlos Beltran elected starters
It's hardly a consolation, but the Mets outnumber the Phillies in All-Star representatives. At least that's true until Carlos Beltran has to withdraw because of his right knee bruise and Philadelphia again overtakes the Mets at the end.
Beltran, Reyes still far from returning to ailing Mets
Mets shortstop Jose Reyes had a cortisone shot because he still feels pain in his right leg, and center fielder Carlos Beltran will need a rehabilitation assignment once the bone bruise below his right knee subsides.
Missing Beltran: Enormous Impact
For all those Mets fans that still think Carlos Beltran isn't the most valuable member of the team, consider the following.

Carlos Delgado Has a Life Coach?
Life Coach?: Most of the “sightings” in gossip columns are plants from publicists. This has to be the strangest athlete-related one we’ve come across: “DISABLED Mets slugger Carlos Delgado lunching with his ‘life coach,’ Jim Fannin, at Patsy’s, where they bumped into veteran MLB umpire Joe West.” What’s one of the most successful...
JETER, TEIXEIRA, RIVERA WRIGHT, BELTRAN, SANTANA AND K-ROD NAMED ALL STARS

REYES' RETURN MOVING BACK

Irrelevanter and Irrelevanter
In the end, I can't blame the players on the team, the coaches, or the manager. Jerry's right when he not-so-subtly points the finger at Omar Minaya for giving him "the players we have."Irrelevant is a tough word to toss around about a team that's 4.5 games out of first place, but looking at the way the team has played, you really have to start wondering whether...
