The Central Maine Sports Blog is reporting that Francisco Rodriguez is not as close to signing with the Mets as widely reported. The CMSB sources tell us that K-Rod came out of meetings disappointed to the point that reps told other teams K-Rod was available to talk to them at any time. It looks like the Mets offered only 2 years, far from the 5 years K-Rod is looking for. Our source also stated opinions have surfaced in Las Vegas to not be surprised if K-Rod stays put in Anaheim(or Los Angeles, wherever the are).

Our source also states things are very slow otherwise.

Spare My Ears

The Mets/Phillies rivalry is comprised mainly of players on both sides who like to talk, particularly when the season is 4 months away.

Putz Is Going To Be Tremendous

Eddie Guardado, the former closer and teammate of J.J. Putz, had glowing remarks for new newest Mets setup man during a conversation with the NY Post. The Mets acquired Putz on Wednesday night at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound power righty will set up Francisco Rodriguez at the back end of the Mets' now-impressive pen. Guardado, who spent two-plus seasons...

Sunday: No job leads for out-of-work Burrell

Your former team replaced you with a player who?s set to turn 37 while continuing their efforts to placate a 46-year-old pitcher, yet you?re the one being treated like a senior citizen. Time to take a hint, Pat. Pat Burrell wants three years and it will become the shock of the signing season if he gets it. So far, we?ve only read assumptions that a team like the Angels might discuss...

Two non-tendered

On Friday the Mets tendered contracts to all five players on the major league level who were arbitration eligible. There were no real surprises to the decision as all are expected to play a role on next years team. Ryan Church will be the starting right fielder, John Maine the #3 starter, Pedro ...

Church, Duaner and Feliciano Gear Up For Arbitration

We were all quick to tell you who the Mets non-tendered, and in the process we never reported who the Mets did tender. The Mets decided to retain Ryan Church, John Maine, Pedro Feliciano, Duaner Sanchez and Jeremy Reed. Those five players can all file for salary arbitration starting on January 5th, and the Mets must exchange salary figures with them by January 19th. If both parties...

‘Mets Are Team To Beat,’ Says Delusional New Hire

The Mets have drawn even with the Phillies in one vital area. Not in the standings, obviously. But in trash-talking.(He may need that hardhat when the division lead starts crumbling.)Giving Jimmy Rollins competition for most obvious bulletin board material is new Met Francisco Rodriguez. ...

Who did it better?: K-Rod's player photo

I was pretty underwhelmed with the job MLB did on putting Francisco Rodriguez in a Mets uniform, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. (Actually, I was challenged to do this in the comment section.)Here's what I came up with...

It's all about the Budget...

The Wilpon's have commented several times that they need to be fiscally conservative in these economically difficult times. It's frustrating to see that they have their own TV network, naming rights, sold out luxury boxes in a new stadium and record attendance but are somehow worried about the ...

A Quick Look at Winter League Performance

Here is a look at how some of the Mets' top players are faring in Winter Ball.

MLB Athlete Number 8 - Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra, or properly Lawrence Peter Berra, is one of the icons of baseball and America. He is also the best MLB athlete to ever wear the jersey number 8. Oh, by the way, if you're wondering if the rest of this list will be Yankee players also (numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are Yankees), the ...

Who is Jeremy Reed...

I thought it was only appropriate to take a look at one of the newest Mets. CF Jeremy Reed was an after thought in the J.J. Putz deal but Omar has done very well with throw-in players like John Maine and Oliver Perez. Along with doing a solid job of finding young, talented outfielders like Ryan ...

Has the Yankees' patience already paid off?

Buster Olney takes a look at this question over on his blog:The winter obsession last year was Johan Santana -- and the Yankees or the Red Sox could have had him. They could have traded for the accomplished left-hander who was about to turn 29. But what folks in both front offices decided was ...
