Jonathan Papelbon is a few things: one of the best closers in the game, a fun loving guy, very intense, someone that speaks his mind, and a complete media whore. Those last two things combined when he did a recent interview with Esquire magazine. Some pretty interesting stuff came out of his mouth, [...]

Bahaha, that picture is so much better than the one I used in my article. With that many Phiten necklaces on, Paps should never have ANY pain.

Papelbon is one of those guys that is your best friend and the minute you leave he talks crap about you to everybody and anybody that will listen! Creep!

How do you figure? He pretty much 'no comment'ed every time someone asked him about Manny when Manny was still on the team.
  • NFCeastALeast
    I'm not sure what ~ 'no comment'ed ~ means so I really can't say.
  • Qwest336
I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with Steven A. Smith on this one. Unless he stood up to The Cancer and said something while he was a member of the team, he is a punk for coming out trying to talk now. Either stand up when it's in your face or shut up forever....

What a chump guppy face is, he waits till Manny is gone to open his big mouth. And I say that even though I feel he is right, Manny is a self centered scumbag. But like Qwest says, why shoot your mouth off after the guy is gone. Pooplebon is a wuss.

If you check Manny's stats in any playoff series that Boston was in, they were great. Yes, he was a little bit of a headcase, but what has Papelbon done to help his team win anything?

Err I dunno, maybe not giving up a run 25 straight innings of post season baseball (setting a record in the process.)

Papelbon waits until now to come out say all this sounds kinda suspect to me??? Where was all this Machismo last season before he (Manny) left Boston???

Why say something to him and give him ANOTHER reason to skip out on playing important games? This may look like a bitch move by Papelbon but if he really feels he has to say something about it, now is the time.

Paps did the right thing by not saying anything to Manny during the season. It would have turned into a real mess. Let management sort things out. Every team in baseball has players on their roster that don't like some other player. You just have to deal with it. If Paps called him a ***** then that would be different. He was asked about Manny by reporters and he told them. Big deal. Is Joe Torre a coward because he didn't come out while manager of the Yankees and tell the world that the players call Alex Rodriguez A Fraud. Of course not because it would have been a distraction. Paps is intense. I can't wait to see him celebrating another world series in October.

Oh yeah like Manny did'nt make it a mess anyway. There were Sox players who were dealing with Manny behind the scenes but it did no good. Varitek and Pappy tried to deal with him, they handled it like men not like the cowardly way Paplebon handled it. And as far as Torre, he was a manager not a player, big difference in how he could handle the situation dude.

I take it you don't watch much baseball or you would know what Papelbon has done to help the Red Sox. He has now become only the fourth pitcher in major league history to record thirty or more saves in his first three full seasons. Mariano Rivera is not included in those four. He has a lifetime era of 1.84. He has a career .930 whip and last year walked eight batters while striking out 77. That's incredible. He is a great team player and loves being put in a tough situation. He is the pitcher you want on the mound for the final out of the world series. He's one of those players that if they were on your team you love them and if they're not you hate them.
  • None of his fine accolades really matter when he is talking **** about one of the best hitters alive. He really has the gall to call Manny out for quitting? Manny's shenanigans aside I would still want him on my team cuz he simply destroys opposing pitching. And Manny probably couldn't care less about his comments, which is even better. And he wasn't talking to some reporters, it was an interview with Esquire. And honestly, saves or not, Mariano Rivera is the most dominant relief pitcher to have ever lived, and this is not coming from a Yanks fan.

He is th equivelant of T.O., he may be a great talent but he is a great distraction as well. Not many teams shared your opinion on that because NOBODY was battling the Dodgers to get this guy and he was out there for a minute, but LA was the only team that paid this a$$ almost what he thought he was worth.
  • NFCeastALeast
I figured it was only a matter of time until someone compared him to Rivera. Please don't even go there!
