Phillies Saturday Stocking Stuffers

Any Phillies win is good, but a Phils win against the rival Mets with Johan Santana on the mound is extra sweet. Putting the sprinkles on top of the chocolate dipped ice cream cone was the snazzy Stars & Stripes caps for the 4th of July "Welcome Back Veterans" theme.

Benson Update:

Here's some breaking news, Kris Benson got lit up yet again in a minor league rehab assignment. He's now started 4 games lasting all of 15.2 innings while allowing minor leaguers to bat .358 off of him that has resulted in 3 losses and a 9.19 era. I think it's safe to assume Benson is not the answer to the Myers Dilemma.

That is one sweet-ass cap, F' yeah America!!!

The end of that game was worth missing the fireworks! Quite a show all on its own! The Happ kid did a decent job and bravo to the fans for showing him some support. Hopefully he took in what Jamie Moyer was feeding him and continue to improve. Did you get the feeling that the other P's are done with Myers as well?

I was very happy to see Vic come through in the clutch after coming up empty in many situations just like that one prior to last night.

I assume you're referring to situations that didn't involve the Braves right? He's had many clutch hits against them this year...pretty many overall actually.

I recall at least 5 situations where Vic was up with 2 outs in the 9th inning where he could have tied the game or made the Phils take the lead, but just didn't get it done. I'm not trashing on him, I love Vic's energy, I'm just being real.

And yet if you hit .300 in baseball you're considered a great player. Thats the name of the game, you can fail 70% of the time and still be good.

Can't say I was such a huge fan of the hats...we already have Red White and Blue in our uniforms...they could have done something much better than what every other team in the league was doing. Ugly hats aside, what a game last night. Happ looked much better than he did last year. His fastball had more life, he was mixing pitches well, ran into a tough spot at the end which raised his pitch count too high, but thats why we have Durbin in the pen. Thank god we didn't give Durbin the start, because had he run into the same problem...there'd be nobody there to bail him out.

One last thing, why are we still doing Benson updates? We KNOW this guy is a bum, always has been, always will be. We KNOW he's not the "answer to the Myers dilemma." They're just going to have to make do with what they have, hope Myers gets his crap together and play great offensive baseball. Lets be honest...there really aren't any quick fixes to be had in the trade market. Sabathia and Harden would be great, but we don't have the organizational depth to land a guy like that. Bedard wouldn't be worth what we would have to give up, nor would a guy like Burnett. Best thing we could hope for in the trade market would be a seriveable #5 guy like a Maddux/Wolf kinda guy. And I don't know about any of you guys...but that doesn't really excite me too much.

Why are we still doing Benson updates you ask...here's my answer!

Well you have fun with those pics in your own time... I'd much rather concentrate on the team and not distractions associated with the team.

But that my friend is what should be considered a healthy "distraction".

Nah thats OK...you can have her. I saw her in person at an O's game before...she needs the airbrushing to look like that ^. A little too rough for me anyways, I'll stick with Considine's baby mama

Are her boobs air-brushed? If so, I want to be that brush!

haha you would...I'm more of a butt guy myself so I probably wasn't paying that close of attention to them

Airbrush?!? You must mean a PAINT ROLLER. Ive seen her on the Stern show, and she is plain gross. I never had any clue what the big deal was about her. Also bootyless. Anywho, if were looking for a "servicable" 5TH day starter, guess we better prepare ourselves for no playoffs....Or another 1st round sweep like last year. This offense needs to be much more consistent before I feel comfortable enough to even entertain the idea that we have a shot in the playoffs.

No playoffs or a 1st round sweep? You must be joking. We're still 3.5 games in 1st place and should have about the same lead if not larger heading into the All Star break despite that poor stretch. If they playoffs were to start right now I believe we would be playing Arizona. St. Louis has the better record, but division winners get a higher ranking than wild card teams. So STL-Chi, Phi-Az. I'm more than confident we could handle any team in the NL, especially teams in the West. The Rockies got hot at the right time last year and rode it pretty far, just like the Giants did in football. Who knows who will get hot at the end of the season, but we're a year wiser and have been to the playoffs before so hopefully we learned something from last year. Unless they have a meltdown in the 2nd half...we're going to the playoffs, theres no reason to believe anything different right now.

We shall see.
