The Phillies went out and signed Raul Ibanez, who will essentially replace Pat Burrell.  Pat "The Bat" will be missed and I hate to see him go, especially after some big moments for the Phillies on their way to the World Series, but we have a tremendous player in Raul Ibanez.  The guy had 110 RBIs for the Mariners last season hitting .293 and joins only four other players to have three consecutive 100 RBI seasons (Beltran, Abreu, Ordonez, and Carlos Lee).  The following is from ESPN:The Phillies have agreed to a three-year contract with free-agent outfielder Raul Ibanez, pending a physical. The deal is believed to be worth $30 million over three years. The 36-year-old Ibanez will become the Phillies' new everyday left fielder, and his signing means the Phillies no longer will pursue their longtime left fielder, Pat Burrell, who is also a free agent.

The Phillies Climb The Mountain To .500

The Phillies are officially mediocre! Yay! Seriously! The Phillies are now 10-10 after winning tonight against the Colorado Rockies 8-6 and sweeping the two-game mini-series. Take that Rockies! That completely makes up for destroying us in last year's playoffs. Much love to Pat Burrell and Chas...

Frank Catalanotto: The RBI Man

Who knew? RBI percentage measures how often a hitter earns an RBI when he has runners in scoring position. Over the past five years, the hitters with the highest RBI% are all sluggers -- guys like Papi, Delgado, Hafner, Pujols, Carlos Lee, etc. But then at # 18, there's little Franky Catalanotto, with his 32 total homeruns since 2002. For some reason, and without slugging, the...

Dye Another Day

The Mets heard the asking price for Jermaine Dye, they told the White Sox, "Thanks, but no thanks." According to Ken Rosenthal of SI.com, The White Sox are asking teams for a young starting pitcher plus additional players for right fielder Jermaine Dye. The Mets, Rays and Phillies are among the teams balking at such a price. Dye, earning $11.5 million in the final year of his contract...

Kevin Mench Signs With Rangers

It's official, Kevin Mench is back with the Rangers on a minor league deal.  The 30 year-old lefty-masher joins the mix for a backup outfield gig. Mench came up a Ranger and was traded to Milwaukee in '06 as part of the Carlos Lee deal.  His best year was 2004, when he hit .279/.335/.5...

The Mets are said to be in the market for a right handed power bat who can play left field but the market for such a player is extremely dry. However; just recently it was reported that the Astros may look to move Carlos Lee as a cost cutting measure.Houston. All you hear about the Astros is ...

David Bell Traded to the Brewers

In return, the Phillies receive Wilfredo Laureano, a Class A RP with a 3.96 ERA. Although they don't get much, Pat Gillick acknowledged that the Phillies had no intention of resigning David Bell at the end of the season. He was in the final season of a 4-year, $17 Million dollar deal. Abraham Nunez and his .157 average will take over at third It's a nice move for the...

The Angels Finally Get Their Big Bat

The past few seasons, the trade deadline has come and gone, and Angel fans like myself have listened to countless rumors involving the Angels, one of their prospects, and some big bat with an expiring contract (Carlos Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Miguel Tejada all come to mind) have circled, the Halos ...

What's Your Deal, Houston Astros?

The next stop on my quest to get to know the NL is in Houston, Texas. The Diamondbacks only left me with questions, I hope I can learn more about the Stros. What's your deal Astros? Last year the Stros went 73-89, good enough for fourth in the weak NL Central. Their 2007 offense can best be described as paltry. This has been a problem with the Astros for far too long...
