After refusing a deal to the Chicago White Sox yesterday, Jake Peavy rumors are now flying around the league. Peavy was essentially dealt to the White Sox but vetoed the deal because he doesn't want to pitch in the American League. Now that we know that he wants to stay in the National League, nearly every NL team in contention is rumored to be trying to deal for the Padres ace. Including the Phillies. According to Mike Francesa of WFAN in New York, the Phillies are in discussions ...

What would it take? Jason Donald and Carlos Carrasco? Would be nice, but I don't think Peavy wants to play on the East Coast.

nope, he wants to stay on the west coast...but you'd have to think he'd want to play for a contender. I'm all for trading prospects right now, we have a bunch of quality quality guys down on the farm and we need big league help NOW and Peavy is about as good as it gets.

I think he also wouldn't mind playing in the Midwest, but that still doesn't help the Phillies.

Peavy specifficly stated that the only team he is interested in going to is the Cubs so I don't see him going anywhere else.

haha get your facts straight buddy...the Cubs are NOT his only preferred destination. Besides, why would he want to come to a team that chokes every year?

it's either the dodgers or the cubs. NO CHANCE of him coming to philly. peavy's contract is about to explode during it's final 3 years, and consensus around the league is that for peavy to sign off on the deal, he's going to insist that his 22 million dollar option for 2013 be picked up. no way he comes to philly for a few reasons: A- we will NEVER guarantee more than 3 years to a pitcher (it's jsut not how the phillies operate), and B- not at that price. peavy isn't the same guy he was in 07. i'd rather hang on to that money for keeping our core of homegrown talent in philly for life down the line (utley, rollins, hamels, howard, et. al.)

I think you can rule out the Dodgers, too. The Padres won't trade him within the division, or at least they shouldn't.

ehh, i dunno. doesn't seem like such a big deal to me. no matter where they send jake they still aren't going to be able to hold LAs jock strap. the padres are just notoriously bad this year

It would be nice to see him here. I think he would sign off on playing for a contender especially the reigning champions. I like Donald but you have to give up talent to get talent. I wouldnt mind seeing him go in a trade for peavy.
  • THIS IS F!!!KING GREAT,IF WE GET JAKE-----THAT WOULD DO IT,A DOG ON THE FIELD AND A GREAT PITCHER--COME TO PHILLY,MY WEST COAST FRIEND,WE NEED YOU--IF WANT A WORLD SERIES RING---PHILLY IS GREAT SPORTS TOWN,FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY---

He has said he only wants to play in the midwest for the NL. He wont come here and even if he did,it'd be Scott Rolen all over again with the incessant bi*ching about how much the east coast sucks.

      Placard_complete_small
He said midwest or the west coast...not just the midwest. and Rolen was the perfect Philly until his last couple of years and who the hell can blame him? Who would want to have their career shortened by playing at the Vet? He was just the only one who had the balls to say anything about it.

Well this is one of those I know a guy who knew a guy who... stories but I DID know a guy who spent a summer working on his house and Rolen's wife would tell him how much he hated the area, the fans,yes..the vet,the team, coaches blah blah blah. So he hated it here.He left.So what?I'm not going to make excuses for it.Everyone else played in the vet with him. Some of them must not have been as big of a pu**y. And if he didn't like the vet why would he go to St.Louis? At the time the Cardinals were still playing in a carbon copy of Veterans Stadium. Oh,I guess he hated that, too. Was he happy in Toronto? Seems like he just couldn't keep his bi*ching under control long enough for any team to build a stadium good enough for Scott Rolen.

I SOOO hope Meatgoat is wrong on this one! lol I would LOVE To have Peavy. The Phillies need a consistent guy other then Hamels! its disgusting. If the Phillies could pick up a pitcher of that caliper, its almost guaranteed World Series contention again.

The only thing close to a source I could find in two minutes was from the Milwaukee Journal which did say the same thing but probably isn't reliable as the Brewers apparantly consider themselves frontrunners to get him.

At any rate, anyone this fickle about where he'll play isn't going to make it in Philly.

You won't find him saying anything because he's kept quiet about the whole situation, but if you want articles stating he wants either the west coast or midwest I'd be happy to provide them for you.

    hows canada treating rolen?
  • Zukny1
hahahaa let me say that Meatgoat is usually pretty spot on with stuff. So if he says it, its most likely true. However with that being said! I still want peavy!

The only absolute truth I can offer here is that we NEED starting pitching.I'm digging Happ.Too bad Lidge had to blow a win for him but that was a great start against a heavily 'roided line-up in a small park.Hamels will be solid and I even think Blanton will be comfortably adequate down the stretch.Moyer's done.Myers is a headcase and it's unwise to expect consistency in the quality of his starts. Also,we now need a closer.
