The Philadelphia Phillies will host the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Playoffs. Despite the Phillies winning their second National League East division title in as many years, thereby ensuring their season would continue into October, their playoff opponents were as yet unknown by the start of Sunday's season finale. The New York Mets and the Brewers started the day tied for the National League Wild Card. The Mets played their last game ever at Shea Stadium against the Florida Marlins, while the Brewers were ending their season in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, who have long since sown up their own playoff birth. Turns out it was a former Phillies that did in the Mets, as Wes Helms' pinch hit homerun in the eighth inning puts the Marlins up for good, effectively ending the Amazin's season. The Phillies were 5-1 against the Brew Crew this season, including a four game sweep of them at home earlier this month. More playoff details to follow.

"while the Brewers were ending their season in Wrigley Field" - really... I hope this is a playful jest at North Wrigley Field.

Wes Helms is a former Brewer, too.

So proud of my Brew Crew!!

It's wonderful to see them make it to the playoffs, regardless of what happens.
    It's been a loooong time.

phils are my favorite playoff team. it's taken me 3 months to find a new favorite team (with a winning record) since my mariners were terrible all year, but i think the phils are peaking at the right time and will show the brewers the reason why they barely squeaked into the post season. brewers can only ride c.c. for so long...

"it's taken me 3 months to find a new favorite team (with a winning record) since my mariners were terrible all year" - don't talk to me, your opinion has no value. Fairweather fans are God's way of reminding us there are still a lot of douche bags on the planet.

what do you mean "don't talk to me." i wasn't talking to you in the first place. and i would argue that you are the douchebag for such a dumb response. I'm still a mariners fan, but since they don't have any more games and I won't be able to watch them, i want a team to root for. you know, like what baseball fans do. i'm not saying im abandoning the m's like you have abandoned any reason or logic. mariners will always be my favorite team. i thought some people with a brain might understand my use of parentheticals, but i guess you were too anxious to attack some random person on the internet that it didn't make sense to you... understandable.

I must have taken your response out of context. Explanation accepted.

That's the World Series I want too, with Phils being the victors of course.
  • Phillies are gonna get a sweep and win the world series. Ryan howard is hot rite now. The brewers should watch out.

let's not get a head of ourselves here. We got to beat Gallardo in game one to win IMO. CC will pitch 2 games. I can only pray that our relief and starting pitching holds up
