Sometimes the offseason isn't only about replacing what's on the field, but also who replacing the coaches who get the players fired up day in and day out. With third base coach Steve Smith's termination, and bench coach Jimy Williams choosing not to return to Philadelphia, the Phillies have some coaching vacancies to fill. They filled one of those positions yesterday when they hired Sam Perlozzo as a coach.
It's still unknown whether Perlozzo will be at third base or on the bench. That depends on who the second coach the front office brings in.
Perlozzo spent last season as the third base coach of the Seattle Mariners, but prior to that was the bench coach then manager of the Baltimore Orioles. He comes to the Phillies with 20 years experience as a Major League coach or manager.
The one role he will have is as infield coach. Perlozzo was an outstanding defensive second baseman in both the minor leagues and Japan. His knowledge will be an asset of an already stellar Phillies infield.
It's unknown who will be the second coach that will be brought in (and ultimately decide Perlozzo's role), but names being rumored are Jim Tracy, Grady Little, and former Phillie, Juan Samuel.

The Making of Wide Receivers
In today's NFL, wide receivers play an important role in most offenses. They make big catches, move the chains, and open the field up. It doesn't hurt if they can block, too. What goes into the making of wide receivers? We will examine the "measurables" and 'immeasurables", the various types of wide receivers, and how they fit into an offensive scheme....
Team USA Early Offense is Key
Team USA is playing a few exhibition games in preparation for Beijing in a little over a week. Yesterday was a warm-up game against Canada. I'm proud of Team Canada, who came out and played hard in the first half, tough to do after the losses last week in Greece.Keys for Team USA will be individual and team defense and early offense points. If they can do both well, their depth...

How to charm a snake (draft)
Most fantasy football drafts utilize a "snake" draft where teams pick 1-12 in odd rounds and 12-1 in even rounds. Crafty owners can take advantage of the characteristics of such a draft if their draft position is one, two or three spots from either end. So those owners with the #2, #3, #4, #9, #10 or #11 picks (in a 12-team draft) should pay attention.
Here's the situation...
Fallen Champs
A one-and-done playoff dance for last year's champion Giants doesn't suprise many. Not because they had to face arguably the best team coming into the playoffs in the Philadelphia Eagles. It is because the Giants peaked weeks ago. Like the Super Bowl Champions of last year, the Eagles are the league's hottest team at the right time. Like the Giants of 2008, the Eagles...
