Same old story for Tom Gorzelanny--in the first inning, that is. He gave up a single, walk, and home run, and just like that, it was 3-0 after 3 batters.-After that, Gorzo was brilliant. Indianapolis-like. He made it all the way through seven innings and was virtually flawless in the final six.-Still not enough against the great......Dave Bush. Bush is turning into the new Jason Marquis--I believe this is the third time he's shut us down this year. Against everyone else, he's a below-average pitcher at best. Bush only gave up one run (Nate McLouth solo shot) and the Brewer bullpen (including Torres) did the rest of the job.-The Pirates stranded a lot of runners (11 I think). That was more about all of the guys reaching base with two outs than ineptitude in moving guys over, etc, though. I don't think the leadoff man was ever on base.------------------------------------------Sigh. More Pedro news. Now it seems that MLBPA is going to focus the charges on just Avarez's ...

Yet Another Alvarez Update

There isn't even a game today, so it's still all about Pedro and Boras.--[Dejan] breaks down the situation like this: MLBPA filed a grievance because of the supposed deadline extension (that applied throughout MLB, not just to us). The two sides (MLBPA vs. the Commissioner's Office) will each present a case to arbiter Shyam Das on September 10, and Das will decide what...

WARNING: SCOTT BORAS IS THE DEVIL

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball BlogScott Boras is currently representing the second overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pedro Alvarez. He is expected to be one of the best players in the coming years and should be on the fast track to the major leagues. The signing deadline for the MLB draft was August 15th at midnight stating that no players...

This is turning into a seriously miserable month for the Pirates. Seven straight losses, nineteen games under .500 after hanging around/below ten most of the year, and now the Pedro fiasco (jeopardizing the only GOOD news...

Alvarez Dispute Affecting Royals' Hosmer

Royals first round draft pick Eric Hosmer was pulled off the field by the commissioners office due to the dispute between the Pirates and first round pick Pedro Alvarez. In no way is Hosmer in trouble, but Hosmer's deal was supposedly submitted after Alvarez's, which agent Scott Boras claims was after the deadline. SI.com's Jon Heyman believes pulling Hosmer off the field...

Scott Boras: No No To Pedro

There once was a boy who's father drove a cab in New York City just to support his family. The boy was Pedro. Pedro Alvarez; gifted baseball player and former millionaire. Former because his agent, Scott Boras, decided six million dollars wasn't good enough. Alvarez, who agreed to his contract at the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute with Pittsburgh's brass, reneged...

Game 135: Royals at Tigers

PREGAME: As college football descends upon us, Kenny Rogers will take on Brandon Duckworth. These two met last weekend, and it kicked off a 4 game losing streak for the Tigers. Rogers didn't pitch well, the Tigers didn't field well, and the Tigers couldn't convert the 11 baserunners they mustered off of [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Game 135: Royals at Tigers...

GameDay #135 vs. Brewers

Brewers (78-56) at Pirates (57-77)7:05--PNC Park, PittsburghJeff Suppan (9-7, 4.58) vs. Paul Maholm (8-7, 3.62)[Preview]-----------This is going to be the shortest gameday post known to man.-This 8 game losing streak needs to end today. Paul Maholm is our best bet and Jeff Suppan is hittable. If we don't get it done, that would make today absolutely miserable. Pitt just lost...

Phillies earn split

The streak of 9 consecutive series wins came to an end today as the Phillies beat the Cubs 5-3. The Cubs won the first 2, but the Phillies won on Saturday and Sunday. Sean Marshall got the spot start for Zambrano and gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning. He'd give up single runs in the 5th and 6th inning as well and the Cubs only managed 2 runs in the 2nd and a run in the 8th...
