Where Is Andy Van Slyke:
I suppose every GM has a weakness. For a over year now, I've been intrigued watching Neal Huntington try to rebuild the Pirates, trying to figure out his plan of attack, how feasible it is, how he's different from Dave Littlefield, etc. One thing is inextricably clear: Huntington loves relievers ...

Pirates sign minor league free agents
The headline "Pirates Sign 5 Free Agents" is one of those things that always gives me a quick shock of excitement upon seeing it, which quickly fades when I realize they're minor league free agents and it's not going to be exciting at all. Indeed, the Pirates signed Daniel Haigwood, Maiko ...
The Pirates are talking to Mark Loretta
There are a couple of possible reactions when reading that the Pirates are talking to Mark Loretta. The easy reaction is, "Well, so long as he's replacing Chris Gomez, I'm fine with that." That's true. Loretta's a useful utility infielder that can still handle a bat fairly well and can play just ...
Mariners Fortify Bench, Sign Branyan
The Mariners signed former Brewers utility man Russell Branyan to a one year deal worth 1.4 million dollars, according to FOXSports.com. Branyan hit .250 with 12 HR in 132 at-bats this season, so he will make for a good go-to guy off the bench for the Mariners. The Mariners are also listening to offers about Adrian Beltre and JJ Putz, but nothing is serious just yet.A This story...
Power. This Whole F-in Thing’s About Power.
In James Jones's classic novel the The Thin Red Line, First Seargent Welsh spends much of the time marching throughout the Pacific theater muttering to himself about property. To Welsh property is what makes the world turn. It's the source of power, poverty and, as indicated by his current predicament, of conflict.

Jack Wilson Traded! No, just kidding...
If that's news to you, imagine how I felt when I booted up the internet and saw the first half of that headline. My RSS reader gives me the oldest stories I haven't read first, so I saw that the [Tigers had acquired Jack Wilson] (no more information). To see how Bucco nation responded, I of ...
It's time to trade Jack Wilson
The winter meetings start next Monday, which means that it's time for general managers to start denying their interest in any and all things that are mentioned. Neal Huntington is already in fine form: General manager Neal Huntington will arrive in Vegas with a fairly defined course of action. ...
Sheets Likely To Decline Arbitration
By Tim Dierkes [December 3, 2008 at 5:06pm CST]
According to Ken Rosenthal, Type A free agent starter Ben Sheets is likely to decline the Brewers' offer of arbitration. He and C.C. Sabathia could leave the Brewers with four draft picks but two holes at the front of the rotation.
Sheets would've had a one-year deal at more than $11MM if he accepted, but his agent apparently...

Rinku and Dinesh were on CNN this morning. I guess they don't have much to talk about now that the presidential election is over.

Inside the DodgersThat is from the LA Daily News' website. Just goes to show you how insane trying to track the offseason can be. From Ken Rosenthal's latest Hot Stove article:The Dodgers are not actively pursuing Jack Wilson, Craig Wilson, Preston Wilson, Enrique Wilson or any other player named Wilson. They spoke to the Pirates about Jack Wilson earlier this offseason, but as reported here earlier, the talks broke down ...
Gaudin Non-tender candidate
We will begin to hear about the next wave of free agents this weekend and through the the winter meetings. Clubs will decide whether to offer arbitration to players still under control ( 3-6yr. major leaguers) by December 12th. Some players simply won't be worth what they'll be rewarded through ...
