The Marlins played spoiler again and it couldn't taste any better. It's a story that couldn't have been written any better. Ex Brewer (who gets booed plenty when he returns to Milwaukee) Wes Helms hit the go ahead shot to secure the Brewers into the playoffs. Your welcome Brew crew, now send that team a Brat or two. The real story here is the fanbase that supports the Mets. I do not think in my 20+ years of watching baseball have ever experienced a more pissed off, classless bunch of fans. All I have been reading all day are the endless amounts of blog posts and comments from Mets fans crying about the Marlins "celebrating" the collapse of the Mets on their beloved field. Comments like they were "acting like kids" or "didn't know how to respect the game" or "were partying on like little leaguers" really grind my gears. Rich and Tommy said it best, "Celebrate all you want!". Do we really think the Marlins were celebrating b/c they destroyed the hopes and dreams of every New York Mets fan, for the season season in a row? Or perhaps it was for other reasons as well. They were also celebrating like little leaguers for having a great season when no one expected them to finish over .500. Hell half the "experts" picked a young team like them to lose over 100 games. They happened to finish with the 3rd best record in franchise history. They celebrated a great season and deserved to do so, whether it was at Shea or in front of 10,000 fans at Dolphin Stadium. What I think most of you "Mets" fans fail to realize is that during the on field celebration a lot of the Marlins players including Jorge Cantu and Wes Helms were helping Mets fans collect infield dirt as a memento to take with them. Using water bottles and cups and handing them to fans and kids in the front row. So while you people use your sadness of losing again to berate Marlins players and fans, try to keep your cool and show some classiness. It's not the Marlins fault the Mets choked again, it's the Mets fault. Were they the better team than the Marlins? The standings show only 5 wins better. If they were the better team then they should have proven it and won. It's time to grow up people, life goes on and you guys sure do show up as classless losers.

Requiem

A Final Salute to Shea Stadium, a day in pictures.

Never Shea Goodbye

In yet another sign of the bungled management that leads the New York Mets, the closing ceremonies to Shea Stadium turned out to be more like a funeral than a celebration. Why, you ask. Well, once again the people in the front office made the BRUTAL decision to have the big gala AFTER the game, rather than before the first pitch. Didn't anyone have the foresight to think...

One More Time for Oliver's Army

Pinning the hopes of the entire season on the arm of an erratic, enigmatic lefty is a scary proposition.

Should they stay or should they go?

Unhappy Recap: Marlins 4 Mets 2

Another season ends just like the last one, with bitter disappointment. What happened here was a microcosm of the whole season.Oliver Perez pitched pretty well but it was clear he ran out of gas in the 6th. Then the bullpen came in and held it for a while, but Manuel used too many guys and it resulted in back to back home runs. But the real problem once again was an offense that didn...

Wilpon takes positives from the season that was..........

Despite all the expectations, the what-ifs and the could-have-beens, Mets CEO Jeff Wilpon managed to muster a few positives Sunday on the final day of his team's 2008 season. "I think we overachieved based on what we had," Wilpon said. Dressed in a windbreaker and sneakers with electric yellow streaks, Wilpon lamented all the injuries -- to John Maine, Billy Wagner and Moises Alou...

Rules for engagement: How Omar should approach the offseason!

This is how I think Omar Minaya should approach the Off-season:1) Go and get a closer via Free Agency - Francisco Rodriquez, Brian Fuentes2) Package Aaron Heilman and a prospect (Maybe Daniel Murphy/Fernando Martinez) for a Starting pitcher. The Mets this Off-season are going to have to part with one of their top prospects to get something done. Heilman has wore out his welcome...

Weighing in on Byrnes

A very popular rumor today was the Eric Byrnes for Luis Castillo idea. First off I would make the deal in a minute but I just don't see it as realistic. The funny thing is, it was an Arizona beat writer who suggested the idea and I would think the D-Backs would be the team that scoffed at the suggestion. So why would the the D-Backs look to move Byrnes, he's a 32 y/o right handed...

inGame: Marlins 4, Mets 2

For the second straight season the New York Mets season were eliminated from the post-season on the final day of the season by the Florida Marlins. The Mets 4-2 loss to the Marlins and the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs shut New York out of the playoffs.

Put it in the books, another heartbreaker....

As the lights go out for good in Shea Stadium, the only home most of us have known for our NY Mets ends the way so many seasons in the past have, with disappointment. I had come to accept the fact that this team might not make it to the playoffs, with as tumultuous and injury plagued season as they had it amazed me that they actually returned to contention. But this weekend sucked...

Byrnes for Castillo?

The Diamondbacks are very interested in bringing back Adam Dunn, but will not have room for him unless they trade either Eric Byrnes, Connor Jackson, or Justin Upton. It appears that Eric Byrnes will be the most likely to be traded. He only played in 52 games this year, but is a career .263 hitter and is not a free agent until 2011. But, who wants an injured outfielder who only hit...
