Eli's MLB Rumors:
According to Ken Rosenthal, people within the industry believe the Rangers will pursue closer Kerry Wood. The Rangers would receive a big boost from Wood, and probably have the inside track at this point, mostly because Wood is from there. However, the Mets, Angels, Tigers, and Diamondbacks have expressed interest in the closer, who is reportedly seeking a multiyear deal. Wood went 5-4 with a 3.26 ERA and 34 SV in 65 games this season, and is just 31. He is probably looking for seven to eight million dollars annually and could get more if the demand is high.Wood will probably wait on Fuentes and Rodriguez to sign, mostly because it will drive up his price even more.A

A True Kerry Wood Eulogy
On Thursday we found out that Kerry Wood would not be back next year. I wrote about the sadness I felt about it but I don't think I was truly able to capture the essence of how Cubs fans are feeling. Fortunately for us, a commentor on Shysterball has eloquently put the whole thing in context:
" I am a die-hard Cub fan, I was raised that way by my father. I was only...
Cecilio's Scribe Has Left the Building
I'm heading out of town. Going to leave that whole workplace behind for a little bit. Try to disconnect and all, ya dig? I'll be back in a week or so. Won't have a lot of Web access or the latest breaking sports news at my fingertips. Hopefully, I'll return and the Mets won't have signed Kerry Wood to a five year deal worth a billion dollars or some such nonsense. Should you see...
So Long Kid K, We’ll Miss You
Today is a very sad day in Cubdom. GM Jim Hendry announced that the team would not be offering a new contract to free agent pitcher Kerry Wood.

The End of the Kerry Wood Era
It wasn't supposed to end this way. The powerful right arm of Kerry Wood was supposed to lead the Cubs to the promise land. The End of the Kerry Wood Era is Near
On the heels of the Cubs acquiring Kevin Gregg, reader "jacos" heard on WSCR that Jim Hendry has said that Kerry Wood is pretty likely to have played his last game as a Cub.
Wood wanted a three year guaranteed deal and the Cubs, skeptical of his injury history, don't feel he's worth that much risk. We'll see what the open market has to offer, but someone...
Kerry Wood won't be coming back
I'm not gonna lie, I'm sad about this news. Kerry Wood has always been one of my favorite Cubs players. I'll never forget watching his 20 strikeout game, or Game 5 of the 2003 NLDS, or the way the crowd went nuts when he made his closer debut last season. I'm even going to miss his birds nest ...
The Closer
Who is the Cubs closer for next year? This guy. Kevin Gregg. What does that mean for the Cubs closer of 2008, Kerry Wood? Well, according to JH, it means "Thanks for Nothing. Enjoy your New Team." I am not sure if JH was concerned that I didn't really have a Cub to hate, but if that was his concern, he doesn't have anything to worry about now. Look, I am probably...

Cubs Acquire Gregg
The Cubs have trade pitching prospect Jose Ceda to the Marlins for closer Kevin Gregg. This is a very interesting move from the Cubs, who have regarded Ceda as a top pitching prospect for several seasons. As for Gregg, he had a pretty solid season for the Marlins despite leading the league in blown saves. Ceda will likely see time in the MLB next season for the Marlins while Gregg...
