What happened in Arlington tonight was much worse than what happened in Kansas City last week, at the T-Bones game. It was on an exponentially larger stage, with national coverage on ESPN. It was between two clubs in the playoff hunt. It involved players that are supposedly professionals at the peak of their sport, not an independent minor league team.
They crossed the line. While a bean ball war may be within the realm of what's more or less allowable in baseball, fighting is most certainly not.
Retaliation, and protecting your team are sometimes accomplished through throwing at a player. The moment it becomes a personal matter, though, it crosses the line. Taking it to the level of hand to hand combat is inexcusable. Suspensions should be swiftly and freely distributed to the players and managers who allowed this to go so far, and who threw gasoline on the smoldering ashes.
