According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have made an offer to closer Takashi Saito after he was non-tendered by the Dodgers. Doctors who have viewed his records are encouraged by what they have seen, and think he will pitch again. There are not too many teams after the thirty-nine year old, so the Red Sox could get him at a reduced price. Saito was 4-4 with a 2.49 ERA and 18 SV in 45 games for the Dodgers last season.
The Athletics, Brewers, and Red Sox will be among teams watching Mark Mulder throw in two weeks. Mulder has pitched in just twenty-games over the past three seasons, but he feels that he made a breakthrough this offseason and will be ready to pitch next season. At this point, it seems like it would come down to the Brewers and Athletics. Ken Macha, who managed Mulder in Oakland, is now managing in Milwaukee and Oakland is his old team, and he may want to return to his former team.?
