Eli's MLB Rumors:
The Red Sox have given free agent catcher Jason Varitek a Saturday deadline to accept or reject their one year offer, according to the Boston Herald. Negotiations have been going on since November, so it is obvious that the Red Sox and Varitek disagree on his value. The Red Sox have gone after Miguel Montero and Jarrod Salatalamachhia, but feel that the price is not worth it. Both the Diamondbacks and Rangers have asked for Clay Buchholz in any trade, and the Red Sox are not ready to move him. Buchholz has the potential to be a solid starter, but might not play a significant role with the team next season with the depth the team had added through free agency. We'll know more Saturday.Â
