According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Red Sox have "had conversations" with the A's about shortstop Orlando Cabrera, who was Boston's shortstop on their 2004 World Series club. Cabrera is hitting just .235/.286/.303 after signing a one year, $4MM contract this offseason. He will receive a $250,000 bonus if traded. Olney also says the Red Sox have talked to the Pirates about Jack Wilson, but says the two teams don't match up well because "the Red Sox probably would prefer to keep some financial flexibility in the event that they need to acquire a DH type" if David Ortiz doesn't turn it around. Wilson is still owed close to $6MM this season.

  • It's amazing.......totally amazing. As I write this the Sox are 1/2 game out of first place, with Lugo not playing, even when he's standing at SS. Papi continues to look horrible at the plate despite some recent hits. Has anyone looked at his swing? One time he keeps his head and chest into the swing, the next swing he is looking at the right field wall, and you can read Red Sox on his chest in mid swing. Hey Dave Madigan, what the hell are you doing?
Anyhow, there is still the ability to sit and wait for Lowrie to get back, but keep the three games for Green, one for Lugo platoon going!
And someone duct tape Papi's chin to his beltbuckle. Every hitting coach I have ever had, heard, or listened to says one thing first. Keep the chin down and look for the ball all the way to the plate.
  • A little surprised to hear O.Cabrera to the Red Sox talk but if it isn't them it would be the Yanks talk of addition neither team ever seems to have enough. They sign all these big FA contracts put all stars at almost every position & then still try to pry away other teams stars. Look at Cleveland they have 3/5ths of the starting rotation they opened the season with gone to injury(one mental in former 19 game winner Carmona) they've lost the power bat in Hafner, their gold glove CF in Sizemore & their highly touted 2B/SS A.Cabrara not to mention the problems of injury & ineffectiveness in the pen. So Red Sox & Yanks feel fortunate you are where you are.

Oakland A's hitter Aaron Cunningham hit by pitch, suffers concussion

Aaron Cunningham left the Oakland Athletics' game against Minnesota on Monday night with a concussion after being hit in the head by a pitch.

Lester Pitches a 2-Hitter for Rex Sox Win

Boston Red Sox; Jon Lester has another amazing start!!! Lester was awesome and pitched like Beckett the other night, LIGHTS OUT!! Last night it was Texas at Fenway and Lester came out and took out the Rangers, hittless for 7 innings. I thought he was going to get a no-hitter once the 6th inning came and went and Lester just was painting the corners and striking people out left...

Dice-K Doesn’t Have It

Daisuke Matsuzaka struggled once again yesterday, but in a somewhat different manner as the Sox fell to the Rangers, 6-3 at Fenway Park. Matsuzaka walked none, 70% of his pitches were strikes, and he struck out 8 in 5 2/3 innings. Eric Avidon observes that Matsuzaka is often to efficient pitching what Britney Spears is to good parenting. Efficient [...]Post from: Boston Sports Media Watch

TEX 6, BOS 3: Rebound

Dominate pitching at Fenway Park could only last so long. Daisuke Matsuzaka took the hill one game after Jon Lester's near perfect game. Dice-K got rocked for five runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings pitched with no walks and eight strikeouts. Nelson Cruz and David Murphy each collected three hits apiece. Cruz also hit his 17th homer of the season in the seventh off of Hideki...

Lester perfect after four

Jon Lester will take a perfect game into the fifth inning. He has been dominant, striking out seven, including Andruw Jones twice. Derek Holland hasn't been bad, but a second-inning Mike Lowell home run is the difference so far. -- Jeff Wilson

Opinions vary on cure for a slump

Put on a Red Sox hat, and, like in the New Era commercial, you might pass for David Ortiz on the street or in the airport. Or, for that matter, this season, at the plate.

Disappointed in Youuuuk

I absolutely love the intensity of Kevin Youkilis. The fact that he cares so much about the every swing of the bat shows great commitment to the game of baseball. What a great guy to have on the team. That being said, I’ve been a little disappointed in Youk lately. On Wednesday Night against the Tigers, Josh Anderson accidently stepped on Kevin Youkilis’s ankle...

Mariners players were worried about wins last season, not draft picks

Actually, the M's only had to lose two of their final three games at home to the Oakland Athletics last September 26-28, and they would have clinched the Stephen Strasburg Sweepstakes. Instead, the Washington Nationals fell to the occasion by losing nine of their last 10. The Nationals finished with 102 losses; the Mariners, after sweeping Oakland, remained with 101.

A's stretch streak to seven

Josh Outman (4-0) turned in yet another fine outing in the A's 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins that extended the majors leagues' longest active winning streak to seven games.

Baltimore Orioles (24-31) at Oakland Athletics (23-30), 9:05 p.m.

Settled into last place in their respective divisions, the Baltimore Orioles and the Oakland Athletics play the second of a three-game set at McAfee Coliseum tonight.
