The Rangers activated Gerald Laird off the disabled list on Saturday after he missed a month because of a pulled hamstring muscle. He made his first start on Sunday and continues to draw interest from both the Reds and the Yankees. The Rangers want top young pitching prospects in return and that's keeping any deal from getting done right now.
The word is that the Rangers are pretty much offering any of their catchers up for pitching not just Laird. I would be interested in pretty much any of them besides Laird because he's only marginally better than David Ross, who's marginally better than me.

Jeff Brantley hasn't been making many friends in the Reds clubhouse this year and it appears that players are fed up with him. So much so that the level headed Ken Griffey Jr gestured to him with a throat slash following a homerun on Saturday night. As Ken Griffey causes a throat-slashing raucous with Reds announcer Jeff Brantley... very little media conversation has occurred around the appropriateness of this (or rather, clearly inappropriateness).
Is this because Junior Griffey is a media darling and/or the media is behaving in a racist manner?!

David Weathers will be traded to the Marlins or to the Yankees.

It is so friggin' hot these days, I bet even the players don't want to be at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington right now. They've got signs up reminding the players to drink lots of water (and Josh Rupe added instructions about eating lots of cheese puffs - ha!), but all the water in the world doesn't make it easy to wear tight pants and run around a hot field. Ugh...

Josh Beckett has been placed on the 15-day DL today. The move is retroactive to August 18th and catcher David Ross has been called up from Pawtucket to fill the empty roster spot. Beckett has had his start moved 3 times in the past week and a half due to finger numbness and right elbow inflammation. He was sent to Dr. James Andrews today and came back with "flawless results...
