MLB Pro Blog:
The Rangers activated Gerald Laird off the disabled list on Saturday after he missed a month because of a pulled hamstring muscle. He made his first start on Sunday and continues to draw interest from both the Reds and the Yankees. The Rangers want top young pitching prospects in return and that's keeping any deal from getting done right now.
The word is that the Rangers are pretty much offering any of their catchers up for pitching not just Laird. I would be interested in pretty much any of them besides Laird because he's only marginally better than David Ross, who's marginally better than me.
Career numbers of the other catchers
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Taylor Teagarden
Max Ramirez
Personally Taylor Teagarden would be the guy I would want. Although he has already been through a Tommy John surgery.

Griffey Throws A Throat Slash Gesture At Reds' Announcer Jeff Brantley
Jeff Brantley hasn't been making many friends in the Reds clubhouse this year and it appears that players are fed up with him. So much so that the level headed Ken Griffey Jr gestured to him with a throat slash following a homerun on Saturday night. Here's the background and the video (:30 mark as he enters the dugout)....CINCINNATI ? For those who read Ken Griffey Jr....
Ken Griffey & Jeff Brantley Brawl - Is the Media Being Racist?!
As Ken Griffey causes a throat-slashing raucous with Reds announcer Jeff Brantley... very little media conversation has occurred around the appropriateness of this (or rather, clearly inappropriateness).
Is this because Junior Griffey is a media darling and/or the media is behaving in a racist manner?!
On Jon Daniels, Hank Blalock, C.J. Wilson And Josh Hamilton
Miscellaneous observations on Blalock-Gate, C.J. Wilson's continued incompetence as Rangers closer, and more.
Deadline Predictions
I'm not going to have time to really update for the next 5 days so here is some things I think will happen by the deadline.

Young Fractures Ring Finger; Roberts On His Way To Arlington?
Michael Young's fractured finger opens the window of opportunity for University of Texas at Arlington alum Ryan Roberts.
Away Games, Please!
It is so friggin' hot these days, I bet even the players don't want to be at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington right now. They've got signs up reminding the players to drink lots of water (and Josh Rupe added instructions about eating lots of cheese puffs - ha!), but all the water in the world doesn't make it easy to wear tight pants and run around a hot field. Ugh...

Josh Beckett has been placed on the 15-day DL today. The move is retroactive to August 18th and catcher David Ross has been called up from Pawtucket to fill the empty roster spot. Report: Phils expressing an interest in catcher Ross
David Ross, 31, was hitting .231/.381/.366 with three homers in 173 plate appearances before he was released by the Reds. He's played parts of seven seasons with four clubs and has been with Cincinnati for the last three. Beerleaguer: The Phillies have a history of adding cheap catching depth after the non-waiver trade deadline. Remember they added Pete LaForest, a quad-A journeyman...
