According to the New York Post, Washington's Chad Cordero and John Rauch, Pittsburgh's Solomon Torres, and Texas pitchers Eric Gagne and Akinori Otsuka will most likely be on the trading block as the trading deadline approaches. All of these pitchers could make a strong contribution to the Mets bullpen.

  • Gagne is going to be interesting trade bait if he's healthy this summer. He's a FA after this year. I remember thinking that the Rangers signing of him was stupid at the time. A one year, $5 million deal? The Rangers weren't going to compete and he wasn't healthy at the time. But if he nets a cheap major league regular or a quality prospect, it almost offsets entirely the money they spent on him. It turns out they didn't have to win to make that deal worth it.
  • The Mets could sure use Otsuka, can you remember how effective he was in the SD relief role?
  • The Mets would have the best shot of anybody to obtain some of these guys, but at what price? How much would you give up from the farm to sign guys in their FA years for a run at the 2007 WS? Let's see who's healthy and still pitching well closer to July 31st....
  • The Mets are saving their prospects for a Victor Zambrano deal.
