Finally some good news headed in the direction of the Atlanta Braves, in maybe the biggest trade since acquiring Mark Teixiera from the Texas Rangers the Braves have traded for Jake Peavy of the San Diego Padres. Details of the trade have yet to be released, but speculation would say that other players included would be Khalil Greene, Yunel Escobar, and possibly Josh Anderson.

  • What a great story, can't believe the Braves got Peavy, what a snag.
  • Good story Dan, keep up the good work!
  • Really? This would be huge for the Braves, hope it goes through!!!
  • You can't be serious? It makes sense though, the Padres won't be able to afford him when his contract is up.
  • Good story, I have heard these rumors are true. I would have liked to see him as a Philly!
  • Let's just say we have a report from a connection we have, so it looks like it will happen. Hopefully for Atlanta it does.
  • First, let me say that you are really "jumping the gun" on this post -- especially considering nothing is official regarding this supposed trade. Second, from the reports I've seen, I can't imagine the Padres settling for the players the Braves are willing to include in this supposed deal (Escobar, Flowers, Morten, and Medlen). If I were the Padres, I'd be asking for Jason Heyward in the deal as a "must have" along with Escobar. Considering the teams that are also "reportedly" interested, I'd give the Rays, Angels, Yankees and Red Sox an outside shot at getting him -- despite Peavy wishing to stay in the NL. I've heard the Rays would possilbly be willling to send a package of Niemann, Brignac, and Ed. Jackson, and have even heard Ellsbury, Lowrie, and Masterson's names come up as parts of potential Red Sox deal for Peavy.

Personally, I think Towers is going to wait until, at the very least, the GM's meetings in November to get anything "official" done. And, who knows, it could even drag on like the Johan Santana sweepstakes past the owners meetings and deep into winter. So, yes, the rumors are there...but there has been NO announcement of any deal being officially agreed upon sending Peavy to the Braves...so, this post is only speculation until that point.
  • It is speculation until something is officially announced but this is a report we have from a decent source. Hopefully this trade doesn't fall through.
  • If this is true...then thank goodness that the Dodgers are not going to face him as much they do. Now we gotta figure out how to get Brandon Webb and Dan Haren over to the east coast AND in the American League or maybe on OUR team, but I'd rather have Manny. Haha.

Braves Getting Serious about Peavy

The rumors have been abounding about Jake Peavy and the Braves this week and it's looking more and more like reality than a far fetched nicety. Now, you can call me "Johnny Come Lately" if you want and I know you've had enough, but I'm glad to hear that at the very least the Braves are proudly being aggressive enough to go after a pitcher that's making even the Yankees drool.

Long line of suitors for Peavy........

Ken Rosenthal's latest column suggest that many teams are in the Jake Peavy sweepstakes. He says the Braves lead the way with a possible trade of Yunel Escobar plus prospects. He also lists Angels, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Astros, Dodgers, Cardinals, Rays, Rangers.....Speaking of the Mets:Rosenthal has said that the Mets have definite interest on the club's part; the...

Title nearly copied from WV23

Perhaps you've all seen Phil Rogers' article from yesterday. If not, check it out. Rogers claims the Cubs could have interest in Manny Ramirez. This was purely speculative on his part and that's what makes it so fun. We all love offseason speculation and to dream of the Cubs signing every single free agent we'd want and trading for the best players in the game...

Kotsay To DL, Anderson Called Up

Braves' center fielder Mark Kotsay went on the 15 day DL today after tightness in his lower back kept him out of the last four games and prohibited him from even taking batting practice Thursday. Josh Anderson was called up from AAA RIchmond to take his place.

ESPN Video: Buster Olney talks about Peavy's possible destination

Mets Should Trade for Peavy !

The Mets have been quiet which makes me believe they are waiting for the pearly gates of free agency to open, after the World Series. The Mets who have Santana, Maine, and Pelfrey under contract next year, they need another starter. While teams like the Braves, Cardinals, and other teams like the Yankees have been mentioned in possible rumors to explore a trade for Jake Peavy...

A Peavy for Your Thoughts?

Over the past year or so, Indians management had been using Padres starting pitcher Jake Peavy's contract as a negotiation reference with C.C. Sabathia and his agent. Both pitchers were recent Cy Young winners and both are still in their late 20's in terms of age. Of course, by now we all know about the likely wise business decision Sabathia and his agent are making by hitting the...

We Have Given A Name To Our Pain ... Again

Since we're Padres fans, Justin Verlander's no-hitter yesterday got us thinking...about suicide. Once we realized that a jump from a third-floor balcony (that balcony being the handiest at the time) probably wouldn't kill us, we were forced to reconsider our position. Thanks to Buster Olney, it's more likely that you know now the Padres passed on Verlander with the...

Andruw Jones joins the Braves, awaits contract

It?s done. The Dodgers have released Andruw Jones and now the outfielder is awaiting a contract for 2009. Jones apparently already thinks he?s back with the team after he showed up to a Georgia Tech game wearing the familiar Braves cap. Jones would battle Josh Anderson and Gregor Blanco for the starting job in center field [...]

Braves' Decision: Left Field

The Braves have several key decisions before them as they go into the heart of Spring Training. One of the only starting jobs up for grabs is a slot in the left-field platoon. Matt Diaz will take half of the platoon after batting .338 in the 2007 campaign, and it's a battle between Josh Anderson and Brandon Jones for the other half of the platoon.

Braves Down Cardinals 12-5

The Braves followed Tim Hudson's strong start to a 12-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals today. Scott Thorman and Josh Anderson made their cases for inclusion on the opening day roster with a combined 7 RBIs. Next up? Jair Jurrjens looks to continue his impressive start tomorrow, once again against the Cards.

Lowe clarifies..go east

It was just last week that Ken Rosenthal believed Derek Lowe would stay on the west coast. However, Lowe clarified himself directly to Rosenthal saying that he would like to return to the east coast. It's further reported that Lowe would prefer Boston but if their not interested it's just down 95 to Flushing......In a recent item, I started that the Yankees shouldn't...

Yanks make a decision, and everybody’s happy

Put down Joba Chamberlain as a member of the New York Yankees starting rotation next season. That is the first big "decision" to come out of the team's ongoing organizational meetings. From Hank Steinbrenner. "The plan as of right now is Chamberlain is going to be a starter," the Yankees co-chairman said Thursday after five hours of [...]
