Veteran reliever Ron Mahay took the fall Monday for an underperforming bullpen when he was designated for assignment by the Royals to clear roster space for Yasuhiko Yabuta’s return from Class AAA Omaha. “They needed to make a spot,” Mahay said, “and I was the odd man out. No real explanation that I could understand.
