Fan Sherpa - The Wise Guide Blog:

This week's Sports Illustrated previewed the World Series with a cover story with the following headline: "Welcome to the Big Bash," and this subhead, "Ryan Howard + A-Rod = World Series Home Run Derby."
Or maybe not. After two games Rodriguez and Howard have combined to go 2 for 17 with 12 strikeouts and 0 home runs. Howard has both of the hits, and both players have six Ks. Good call SI.
Or maybe it's the famous SI jinx at work. It's known more for bringing down teams, but maybe in this case it's affected a couple of players. Howard and A-Rod have at least three more games to prove that wrong.

A-Rod Continues Umpiring Controversy (By Allowing Umps to Get One Right)
Alex Rodriguez was the subject of the first replay review over a home run in Major League Baseball, and last night, he was the subject of the first replay review in World Series history.By hammering a ball to right field that hit a FOX camera, A-Rod once more became an unwitting pioneer in the use of instant replay. The trick, in a game played on Halloween night, was that he treated...
A-Rod Had Paintings Of Self As Centaur Over Bed
Much has been said and written about Alex Rodriguez’s mighty ego, but did we ever think that it would reach, literally, mythic proportions? In the greatest item I have read today, US WEEKLY tells us that a former Rodriguez girlfriend says that the Yankee had two portraits painted of himself as a centaur, and that [...]
FOX's Camera Causes Controversy on A-Rod Homer
Whether it’s been BCS games or baseball playoffs, we’ve often complained about FOX TV overproducing sporting events. Not to say that I or many others don’t have short attention spans, but it seems to me that along with showing you sports, FOX’s goal is to give you A.D.D. if you don’t already have it. [...]

Alex Rodriguez wound up with a home run after the first instant replay review in World Series history, and the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-5 on Saturday night for a 2-1 edge.

Blog: Leave A-Rod alone, for cryin' out loud
The media have been tough on Alex Rodriguez because of his failures in the first two games of the World Series. Here's an idea: give the dude the benefit of the doubt and allow for the fact that this is a World Series that, so far, has been marked by dominant starting pitching, even by the losing pitchers. If A-Rod strikes out with the bases loaded in the last at bat of the...

Rodriguez awarded home run in fourth inning; Swisher, Matsui also connect

Howard whiffs 4 times
So much for pre-Series hype.
The talk before the World Series was of how sluggers Ryan Howard and Alex Rodriguez could dominate the World Series. But neither player has done much in the first two games and Howard had a brutal Game 2 against A.J. B...
Utley and Howard: The beard and the gel
Last night, two Phillies players tried on new looks. Ryan Howard showed up for the game rocking the playoff beard, and Chase Utley brought back the slicked back hair.
Howard’s new look was somewhat unexpected, as he’s been hot lately and if there’s one thing Crash Davis taught us it’s that you never mess with a [...]

Even CC Sabathia admitted after the Yankees’ Game 1 loss that “we need [A.J. Burnett] more than ever now.”

Centaurs among 10 reasons why A-Rod is struggling in Series
After appearing to lick his unfair reputation for bombing in the postseason during a strong ALCS, Alex Rodriguez(notes) finds himself off to a rough start in the World Series. The Yankees aren't collectively stinging the ball against Phillies pitching, but A-Rod's line so far — 0-for-8 with six strikeouts — has folks talking and will get New Yorkers booing if...

A Call To Fans in Red
So the Phillies lost game 2. How you ask? Most notably because the line-up curled up like a snail in salt. But one thing is for sure: It WAS NOT because of the umpires! The men in blue are part of the game. They always have and they always will be. The TV cameras showed that they missed a few calls. One for the Phillies and one against. The fans who call up sports talk stations screaming...
