Thomas split the most prestigious college baseball award, the Golden Spikes, with the first pick overall David Price this past offseason. Still Tony was taken 96 picks later, when the Cubs nabbed him with the third pick in the third round. Thomas saw quite a few unproven high school infielders taken before him due to most scouts believing that Thomas was a finished product and his range for improvement was limited. When Thomas was still available in the third round, Wilken and associates could no longer pass on the ACC player of the year. Tony did not disappoint as he signed early and reported to Arizona (rookie ball) for a short stint before raking it up at Boise (short A).

Yes, America --- The Rays Are Headed to the World Series...
The Rays are in the World Series! If anyone picked them in March to play for it all -- you're lying. It seems like all of America -- aside from Red Sox fans -- were picking them to advance to the promised land, and finally, it looks like the doormats of the AL East and the laughing stock of baseball for so many years have made it.
What can we say about David Price! This game...
Why Wasn't David Price in Earlier?
Look, I'm not saying that the Rays would have won the game otherwise, and I'm certainly not saying that the Phillies didn't earn the World Series title a?" they did. But if there's one issue I have with the way Game 5 finished out, it was that David Price didn't enter the ballgame until [...]
Price Tagged as Starter
Anybody who saw that slider David Price threw to J.D. Drew in the eighth inning of Game 7 of the ALCS, with two outs and the bases loaded, knows just how talented this guy is."All I know is that the AL East better be ready," said veteran DH Cliff Floyd.A "He makes it look easy."Price, [...]
Cubs' Sold on Vitters as 2007 Draft Pick
The Draft is approaching shortly (June 7-8th) but it's becoming very evident the Cubs have their eyes set on one individual with their 3rd overall pick in the upcoming draft. Tampa is a lock to draft lefty Vanderbilt starter David Price, while the Royals are wrestling between Georgia Tech's catcher Matt Weiters, North Carolina State's Andrew Brackman, and New Jersey...
Dan Murphy # 8 on SI's Top 50 Prospects
It appears that Daniel Murphy is getting high praise on SI.'s Top 50 Prospect list by Frank Neville. He was ranked 8th on the list that includes Tampa's stud, David Price at #1.
The best part of it all is Neville says he believes that Murphy can help the Mets by playing 2B with an above average glove.
I hope Murphy can be the 2009 NL Rookie of the year and fill in modestly...
MLB Amateur Draft 2008: My Draft Board + Pedro Alvarez Scouting Report
With the MLB amateur draft approaching, I thought it would be a good time to start profiling some of the young talent that may be coming to a team near you. Generally speaking, this draft does not have a consensus top prospect, like a Justin Upton or David Price, so it's anyone's guess who the top pick will be and the Tampa Bay Rays are thought to be deciding between Buster...
Sports lllustrated Headline: Young, Gifted, and BLACK -- Article Says There Aren't Enough Blacks in MLB; Wait, Isn't There Like Not Any Whites in the NBA?
Sports Illustrated published an article saying there aren't enough blacks in baseball (just 8%), but there were 27% in 1975. Do they expect use to believe that there is more racism in baseball now than in 75?
You know what would be a more realistic reason? That blacks have started playing basketball and football more since the 70's. Wouldn't that be good for race...
Mets NOT in love with Javier Vazquez to fill a void in rotation..
According to Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are in search of starting pitching as well as a closer, aren't enamored with the White Sox's Javier Vazquez, who lasted only one season with the Yankees.
Rays right-hander Andy Sonnanstine, a strike thrower and dogged competitor, represents a more desirable target, but the Rays are forever reluctant to trade pitching. The...
MLB Draft Top Pick Possibilities
In our hubris after the 2007 NFL Draft, we have decided to live-blog the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Well, at least the four hours that are on ESPN2 on Thursday. Actually, we'll see how it goes. Four hours is a long time considering only the die-hardest of the die-hards know anything at all about the kids that are going to be drafted tomorrow. Still, it should be a...
Most Important Ray?
Our own Kevin Gengler took part in a Rays blog 'round table' of sorts at Rays Anatomy. The question was which Ray is the most important to the team's future success; the answers included David Price (twice), Jake McGee, Carl Crawford, B.J. Upton, and Gengler's pick of Scott Kazmir, but my answer woul...

Quick Pic: Rays campaigning for Obama?
Change We Need might as well be Fox's slogan for the World Series, as we'll have a matchup of two totally different teams than anyone expected. Today's pic features David Price addressing the crowd at a rally for Barack Obama at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, with Carl Crawford and Cliff Floyd flanking him in the background.Check out more from Tony Arnoldine at http://tixytixy...
