I'm still not sure what exactly happened with Gary Sheffield, it's been reported that prior to the trading deadline, teams were interested in acquiring the aging slugger.A combinations of not wanting to appear to be sellers and keeping the only home run threat in the line-up as a box office draw, seems to be the only reasonable explanation for keeping him. Then in August when Sheffield was placed on waivers and claimed by the Giants, there doesn't appear to be any legitimate explanation for keeping him. Even with the Giants only willing to take on his salary as a blocking move, by then every fan knew the team was no longer in contention.What ended up happening was, Sheffield found out about his waiver claim and the Mets withdrawal, expected that meant he had a future with the team and went looking for a contract. When Omar refused to discuss a contract, Gary suddenly had a back injury that limited him to pinch hitting duty for the rest of the season. Now the team he wa...

Best Postseason Team Ever

Watching three of this year's four League Division Series end in sweeps got me thinking that three-and-out is a tough way to leave the playoffs. It also got me checking. It is an area we call The Left Field Conundrum."...

Wagner’s Poor Postseason Results Continue

Small sample size? Mets fans saw a shaky Billy Wagner during the 2006 playoffs. Going into this afternoon’s contest Wagner had a 9.28 career playoff ERA and a WHIP of 1.8. I realize Jonathan Papelbon was responsible for the inherited runners, and the loss, but Wagner was asked to get three outs in the eighth and [...]

David Wright:: Dear Diary

I found a page from the Diary of the Mets Captain David Wright today and I thought I should share it. Wright is such a template for baseball as he works hard, loves the game, isn't in the media spotlight that NY athletes can get so easily caught up it and Wright wants to win. Unfortunately for Wright, his biggest problem or enemy is the team he plays for, the New York Mets...
