Just awful. Not only did the Boston Red Sox get ridiculously screwed, but they also decided to screw themselves over more with poor defense.Three times, Mike Lowell had a high throw over to first base and two out of the three times, the runner was called safe, when clearly on instant replay he was out by a mile.Kevin Youkilis was ready to sumo wrestle the umpire down and I'm surprised Terry Francona didn't get ejected after the third time.All-in-all there were three errors committed, courtesy of Alex Gonzalez, Lowell, and Jason Bay.Jon Lester made one mistake and that was Torii Hunter three-run bomb to give the Los Angeles Angels a 3-0 cushion and never looked back. It's only Game 1, but now the pressure is on the Sox to bring the series back to Fenway tied at one game a piece. The pressure is also on to score some runs.Like what you see? Lowell Robs Hunter

Torii Hunter just hit a screaming line drive down the third base line and Mike Lowell’s quickness allows him to dive and snare the ball in the air. Brooks Robinson and Graig Nettles would be proud. The Angels have a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the fifth. [...]

Strong-armed

They were one misfortune away. One oblique strain or pulled hamstring or line drive to the knee from the situation turning dire. The Red Sox were one more injury, or one more starter plagued by ineffectiveness, from searching for the 2009 version of Kevin Jarvis.

Hitting has come around, but will it bend against iron?

By most any measure, the Red Sox are a very good offensive team. They ranked third in the American League in runs, second in on-base percentage, and second in slugging percentage. Once Victor Martinez came aboard at the trade deadline, only the New York Yankees scored more runs per game, but just barely, and they played in a home ballpark ...
