TEAMS: Cincinnati Reds
CTR: Are you guys pretty much done for the season, is this the team you're going to take to spring training? The big additions to this team were Ramon Hernandez, who might not even be as good as Ryan Hanigan, and Willy Taveras, who last year might have possibly been worse than Corey Patterson depending on how much you value defense.WJ: Right now, I would say yes. But I'm still looking at ways to improve it, I'm still trying to improve the bench. I'm also kind of in the mindset that we've got a lot of new guys and we've got a lot of things to look at, I'd like to get into camp before we start tinkering with it.
That's not really annoying as the next line of questions and answers.
Now certainly the Reds wouldn't have acted like they were going to increase payroll if they really weren't would they? Nah this ownership is just not in the business of saying things to appease fans.Q: Dusty said you guys are at budget, is that the case?
WJ: Yeah. We're pretty much there.
Q: Do you feel hamstrung by the economy?
WJ: We had a budget, it's the same budget we had last fall. I think, if anything, our sales haven't really picked up yet, but hopefully that will take off soon when people start thinking about baseball.
I'm guessing that moving target was attached to a dead turtle. The Reds have some payroll flexibility after the trades of Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn. The payroll Opening Day last year was $74 million. Jocketty said after the season he expects it to go up.
Castellini said the club does not have a number set in stone.
"We've got an idea," he said. "But it's a moving target."
Just for some more guffawing (thats right I just used the word guffaw on this blog) lets get another quote similar from a John Fay blog.
Walt Jocketty wouldn't give an exact number, but he said he expects the player payroll to climb for next season.and from John Fay's blog today regarding the payroll:
"It's what it was last year," Jocketty said. "In fact, it may be a little more."Well thank god it "may be a little more", it's the thought that counts.
Just for another kick in the dick Dusty Baker drops a line pretty much making me want to go to the Reds caravan just to brand "I'm a dipshit" on his forehead. I would never do that of course because I have a blog to write, and I know all my amazing readers would really be lost with out me if I was in jail.
Dusty Baker said Willy Taveras will be the center fielder and leadoff man. "Everyone talks about his on-base percentage," Baker said. "I like the way he gets in scoring position."How a major league manager can go from ignoring on-base percentage to then saying "I like the way he gets in scoring position." as if getting on base isn't the first step in the process of getting into scoring position in some magical way will continue to blow my damn mind.
Not to mention this quote that fully proves that Dusty is the dumbest person on the planet.
A guy who had whatever he had, 30-doubles and double-digits in triples and 60 stolen bases. He?s in scoring position a whole bunch of times.Willy Taveras has never had more than 19 doubles or 5 triples in a season, but that doesnt stop Dusty from acting like he is doing more than robbing the Reds blind for 9 million when the writers bring it up to him that he's wrong.
We?ll make him better. That?s my job. That?s our job.Does Dusty just make shit up and hope people won't check if he is wrong? This isn't the first time he's just made shit up either. Here's one with him talking about Dunn and Griffey splits against a pitcher, and another about Corey Patterson starting to swing the bat better, he also stated that Corey Patterson was a better hitter against lefties than he was righties.
I'm not having a good day today.
