In yet another mortar shelling, the Red Sox came up empty in Wednesday night's beating at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, losing 12-0. For those of you keeping count, that's six consecutive losses on two straight sweeps. Roy Halladay had a no hitter going into the sixth, before Joey Gathright, of all people, broke it up with a weak single that NESN proceeded to play on loop like it was an ALCS walk off homer, but hey... gotta hang on to the small miracles... right? And the miracles were pretty tiny last night. In addition to a stellar web gem, Gathright was responsible for two of the three Red Sox hits on the night. Rocco Baldelli was responsible for the other. The Doc went the distance, while the Red Sox used seven pitchers after Tim Wakefield was knocked around for five earned runs in his three innings of work. For the second night in a row, home runs were given up to everybody and their uncle, including Lyle Overbay, Jose Batista, and two from Randy Ruiz. ...

Gathright waiting for his stolen moment

Joey Gathright has never played in the playoffs, but he loves baseball and he watches them every season. In October 2004, he huddled around a television with friends and watched Dave Roberts emerge from the Fenway Park dugout in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, walk to first base, then take his lead.

Halladay shuts down Red Sox as Jays dominate

Roy Halladay pitched a three-hitter for his second consecutive shutout and the Toronto Blue Jays sent the Boston Red Sox to their sixth straight loss, 12-0 on Wednesday night.

Blue Jays Blow Out Sox AAA Club 12-0

In a game barely worth recapping, the Blue Jays ripped through the Red Sox, winning 12-0 behind ace Roy Halladay. Perhaps making a last pitch (get it?) for the Cy Young Award, Halladay tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout. While incredible, the start wasn’t very impressive, considering the Red Sox threw out a lineup that included [...]

Gammons On Wedge, Halladay, Giants

ESPN.com's Peter Gammons describes how hard it it to win when there's no room for error. It's tough for small-market teams like the Indians and Blue Jays to win when every mistake and injury costs them. Here are Gammons' latest rumors: Indians GM Mark Shapiro never felt that the club's disappointing season was manager Eric Wedge's fault, but someone...

Celebrating Excellence

One day, I will tell my unborn children about the legend that is Harry Leroy Halladay III. They will learn how Doc dominated baseball's toughest division, throwing complete game after complete game, while forever protecting the honour of his teammates. Thanks to a ball aimed at the bulbous David Ortiz, with Boston having clinched a playoff spot, and the Toronto Blue Jays once...

G158: A Day After Backing Into Post-Season, Red Sox Lose Sixth Straight, 12-0

This is not the way the Red Sox would like to head into the post-season. On the verge of clinching a playoff berth, they have now lost six consecutive games. Last night’s loss was by far the worst — a 12-0 drubbing at the hands of Roy Halladay and the Toronto Blue Jays. For [...]

A DAY AT THE BALLPARK, BEATS A DAY SHOVLING SNOW

There used to be a homeless guy who hung out in front of Shea Stadium who had a sign that read “No need to lie, I need a beer”. I loved the honesty of that guy so much that I always threw a buck in his cardboard box. I bring this up because like my man who can’t lie about wanting a brewski, I feel the same way about the Mets.   I could have my own sign “No need to...

TOR – 023 032 011 – 12 – 17 – 0BOS – 000 000 000 – 0 – 3 – 0Fielding a team more appropriate for Ft. Myers in March than Boston in September the Sox were vaporized by Toronto. The only bits of interest in terms of the game were seeing what may well have been the final start with their respective teams for the two starters.Roy Halladay was every bit the superstar he’s...
