TEAMS: New York Yankees, Texas Rangers
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Texas Rangers have been scouting Yankee prospects in expectation that the Bombers will make a run at acquiring first baseman Mark Teixeira.
The Rangers are reportedly seeking rookie pitcher Phil Hughes in return. The Yanks consider Hughes "untouchable" and the Rangers are dreaming if they think he can be had for Teixeira alone. However the conversation starts to get a lot more interesting for both teams when you begin to toss in names like Eric Gagne and Akinori Otsuka. According to Rosenthal, the Yanks have been scouting both players.

Gagne to NY?
Discussing rumors about Gagne going to the yankees. He makes $5 million with a chance to make $11 million. He has a no-trade clause, but the Yankees are one of only 3 large market teams who could be interested that doesn't have to give his consent to. Gagne would rather go to a team as a closer, with the Yankees he would be expected to serve as a setup man.

Yanks Should Turn To Burnett
The Toronto Star is calling pitcher A.J. Burnett "classless" today. In other words, looks like the Yanks have found an available pitcher!
Actually, the news that Burnett - who can opt out of his contract at season's end - is on the trade market is not exactly breaking news. A.J. is 26-22 in 2+ injury-plagued seasons after signing a five-year, $55 million contract with...
Yankees Willing to Deal Hughes for Santana…
Well, the latest news in the Santana derby is that the Yankees are willing to dangle Hughes in order to get the Minnesota lefty.

And, within the internal discussions...

Ponson to Stay in Rotation
Joe Girardi said yesterday after the game that Ponson would remain in the rotation. I don't see what the point of this is. He's clearly terrible and he has not future with the Yankees. Girardi has been known to lie about stuff like this but if he starts that game against the Rays every Yankees fan should be annoyed. Phil Hughes pitched yesterday giving up 1 run in 5 and 2/3 innings...
Yankees Season Comparison
After a disappointing third place finish last season, the Yanks look to have a bounce back season and win No. 27. There were a lot of injuries and they were expecting to much from the younger players ( Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy). Come on, they're 21 and 23 (at the time) and you have no back up plan, sometimes you need to expect the worst. Look how the rotation turned out by...
MLB Forum Discussions

so, you'd be acquiring a top 5 1b in teixeira, a premier bullpen guy in otsuka, and a possibly washed up, but dominant when healthy gagne...if the rangers would take anything involving those 3 guys and not demand hughes in return, they could be legally considered retarded in my book. personally if the yanks would want all 3, i would demand tabata, and at least hughes...maybe even betances in there too.
funny thing is, even if the yankees traded for all 3 of those guys, they still wouldn't win the world series this year. deplete your farm system again...that's fine with me, and i'm sure fine with the rest of the AL East too.
Whats wrong with the Yankees right now, do they even need Teixeira, Gagne, or Otsuka????
