I appreciate everything Aaron Rowand did for the Phillies. He brought grit and tenacity to the clubhouse, and put up some decent numbers while here only 2 seasons. "The Catch" is a story I'll be telling my son about in years to come. However, I bleed Phillies red and I could give less than two pinches of poop if he ever collects another hit in his career. All I know is that Gillick tried to re-sign Fence-Face to a shorter contract (believed to be 3 years) with substantial money involved where he could have been playing for a perennial contender, yet he decided to roam centerfield for known losers the San Francisco Giants. I don't blame the man for seeking security through a contract, but I don't have to be happy for him either or not be pissed when he puts up these stats through 5 games against my beloved Phightins: 8-19, 6 r, 1 dbl, 2 hr, and 2 rbi. So thanks for everything Rowand, but screw you!

  • Was it an afternoon game? If so, then it probably conflicted with whatever game Fox decided to show. It's retarded.
  • FOX owns exclusive rights to Saturday afternoons, so any game played during their nationally televised game of the week doesn't get aired anywhere unless FOX sends a crew there to cover the game.

Phils struggling against the lowly Giants again, what does that say about the Phils?

Marlins and Mets won again though, and the Marlins aren't just annoying anymore...they're scary!
  • Thanx for the info. Me & the hubby wasted time looking for it.
  • thank god for mlb tv and the extra innings package!
  • How can you say anything bad about Rowand? The guy played his heart out while he was here, a place he never really wanted to be in the first place. He was forced to be here because of a trade and was never very thrilled about it, but he made the best of it and did more than was expected from him. Would I still love to have him in center? Absolutely, but he did what he felt was best for him. The money we offered him was about the same as SF, just for fewer years. He always said he wanted to play on the west coast where he is from and where he attended college at CSF.

GM you say appreciate everything and end it with a "screw you." You sound like a middle schooler who just got dumped. I was the same way when we signed with SF, but thats the name of the game. He had a great year and got paid for it in a place hes happy. He already has a ring so who cares about winning? Would you rather raise a family in Philly or sunny Cali??? An obvious answer for most people. Wish him the best, just not against us. Oh and the Marlins won't keep it up...great young team....key word: young.
  • I loved Rowand while he was here, but he's beating the crap out of us now and that's never cool! I don't fault him for taking the contract, it's financial security. However, I'm not going to be happy for him, especially when he's lighting up the Phils pitching staff...that's just dumb!
  • No thats called being an adult. Being happy for him and wishing him well doesn't mean you have to cheer for him. Does it suck that hes doing so well against us? Absolutely...but what else is new with guys we let go or trade away. Look at Bourn and Gavin Floyd...are you not happy that they are doing well elsewhere? Wish em the best and hope they don't destroy us when it counts.
  • I don't want to see any ex-Phil go out to great things after their time with the Phils, that's just how I feel. I'm not rooting against them though, but in Gavin Floyd's case I am. I hated him while he was in Philly, never did crap for us.
  • Well have fun being a bitter old man when you grow up...if that ever happens of course.
  • Why all the personal attacks on me? Seriously bro, you've got problems!

He's Back!

Jimmy Rollins rolled into San Fran, deposited himself in the starting lineup in his customary leadoff spot, and promptly went 3-5 with a run, double, homerun, and 3 rbi. Welcome back J-Roll, we missed ya! Jimmy's obviously a motivator, he hustles his booty off on the field, and plays with a fiery passion for the game that's contagious. I've grown accustomed to seeing him in the lineup...

Phillies bullpen fails them in 4-3 loss to Giants

The usually reliable bullpen came up short today for the Phillies, failing to protect a one run lead in the later innings. Adam Eaton started the game and had major control issues, walking 5 batters in 5 innings, but he managed to keep most of the damage off the scoreboard, holding the Giants to just two runs. With the Phillies up 3-2 in the sixth inning, the game was turned over...

Tough time for Bay Area, AT&T Park scene of Giants fan death

An SF Giants fan was killed on Friday night after getting into a physical altercation outside AT&T Park, suffering major injuries to his head after being hit. 18 year old Anthony Giraudio responded to a comment about a female companion he was with when he was hit and fell, hitting his head on something and that was it. It's senseless actions such as these and the murder of a...

Welcome Back Rollins ! ! ! ! !

Jimmy Rollins returns to action last night and hits 3-5 HR, 2B, 3 RBI.

Someone Get on This...Meech? Matt P?

Phillies.com mailbag question ponders whether Pat Burrell owns and sports a "man purse." Any of you Phitin' phans out there know. Bonus points for photographic evidence.

Jamie Moyer is Fried

Things are not good for the Phillies #3 starter. (nor for their number 1, 4 and 5 starters, either....but that's a whole different story.

Rollins' return sparks Phillies over Giants

The MVP is back! Jimmy Rollins made a successful return to the top of the Phillies lineup tonight against the San Francisco Giants. Rollins started off the game looking a little shaky in the field but finished off strong at the plate, going 3 for 5, including a 2 run homer in the 5th inning. Rollins cut the Giants early lead down from 3 runs to 1 run and gave the Phillies offense...

A good game to miss: Phillies lose 8-2

If no one watched it, did the Phillies really lose? In a game that was blacked out across the country, the Phillies fell to the Giants 8-2. It was the first time since June 2006 that the Phillies game wasn't on, and it wasn't a bad game to have missed. The Giants young ace Tim Lincecum shut down the Phillies lineup, going 8 innings and giving up only four hits. He did...

Answering Murphy's Question

David Murphy, pretty much the only Philadelphia Daily News journalist that is even tolerable (Murphy is great), wrote a blog today asking the question, "How much does Rollins mean to this team?"

Ashford and Plumper

Oh Sarge....Sarge, Sarge, Sarge..... Please don't refer to a woman, especially a semi-famous woman with a fanbase, as 'plump.' And on television no less. Check out what Sarge Matthews does on his day off...compliments of our friend Pat over at Phils-ville.

Phillies consider extensions

The Philadelphia Phillies have preferred to avoid contract negotiations in the season for quite some time now. A lot of this can be directly related to General Manger Pat Gillick, he prefers to avoid the talks as he feels it could become a distraction to the player and team as a whole. Most Phillies fans will tell you thats also a reason why Aaron Rowand isn't roaming center field...

Five losses in a row for the Giants and Padres

If you live outside of California, you may know that the Giants and Padres are duking it out for last place in the NL West, but what you probably don't know is that both teams have lost their last 5 consecutive games. San Francisco is 9 games behind the Dbacks and San Diego is 11 games back — and neither team has been able to stop their skid. The Giants have actually had some shining...

The Need for Speed

The Phillies emerge from a so-so trip out to the West which saw the team drop four of even games against the Diamondbacks and Giants with an off-day before starting up a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves tomorrow. I’ll preview the Phillies – Braves series tomorrow.Despite losing two of three to the Giants over the weekend, I think the Phillies are returning a stronger...
