Josh Hamilton is a special player. We all know that by now. In his first full big league season as a starter, Hamilton wowed the Rangers and baseball fans all over the world by hitting .304 with 32 home runs and 130 RBIs. The sky seems to be the limit for the 27 year old Hamilton, as his power and consistency should only improve with time.So on that thought, the Rangers are wisely trying to sign Hamilton to a long term deal. Even though the Rangers control Hamilton's rights until 2012, his price tag is likely to go sky high in the upcoming seasons thanks to arbitration. The Rangers would probably be saving themselves money in the long run by locking up Hamilton to a team friendly and cheaper contract. Buying out all of Hamilton's arbitration years and one or two of his free agent seasons could turn into a major coup for the Rangers down the road. However, it does not look like things got off to a rockin' start between the Rangers and Hamilton. After the Rangers made their...

The Ceiling of Nick Markakis…
Amongst a lot of baseball heads and other fans, I’ve contended that Baltimore’s Nick Markakis is probably one of the under-rated players in the game. I’ve said time and time again during the offseason if Markakis played in either Boston, or one of the New York teams, he’d not...

According to the IBAF, a poll was recently posted on espndeportes.com which asked if baseball should return to the Olympics. Just 24 hours into the voting, over 7,000 voters from 30 countries have logged on and the results are resounding as 95% have voted yes.
Many reports have noted that WBC officials have been pleased with the progress that has been made with Dodgers Stadium...

Minority Ownership of Rangers For Sale
Although it looks like Josh Hamilton isn't totally ready to stake his future in the Texas Rangers, that doesn't mean team owner Tom Hicks is going to stop his search for somebody to take some of the team off of his hands. While Hicks, who also owns the NHL's Dallas Stars and 50% of the English Premier League's Liverpool FC, isn't exactly bleeding money at the...
Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 4/2
Something I forgot to mention in last night’s post was the fact that Kevin Youkilis tied Steve Garvey’s MLB record of 193 errorless games at first base. With another mistake free game today, Youk will have that record all to himself.
Here is some video goodness from last night’s ga...
Sunday a.m. things
Great article by Evan Grant today on the trials and tribulations of Josh Hamilton. Lengthy and fascinating piece about his struggles with addiction and his path back to sobriety, well worth a read... Richard Durrett has a blog entry up about the banquet, with some comments about various players...
Happy Josh Hamilton Day
Half of the front page of today's DDN's sports section is a picture of Josh Hamilton. In case you somehow missed the story, Hamilton had some major drug problems and is trying to make his way to the majors after two years of suspension. If he makes it, I think he might be able to help with my continu...
Walking All the Way to the Bank
The Blosox signed Kevin Youkilis for one year and $3 million to avoid arbitration. Huge bargain right there. On the other hand, last year he only earned $424,500.
Long-Term Deal For Youkilis Would Be Nice!
It's Friday already. Talk about the joy of a short week. Two of 'em, in fact! I could get used to this...easily. I was reading the sports section of the Boston Herald online this early morning, and I came across an article about our first baseman supreme, Gold Glover Kevin Youkilis. In it, Youk's age...
Did Red Sox Players Always Look Like Cartoon Characters?
(Boston.com and IMDB.com photo credits)Or is that a new thing? Much like the time I commented that Kevin Youkilis reminded me of nothing so much as Yukon Cornelius, I've hit upon an animation doppelganger for Jonathan Papelbon. To be truly accurate, The Rick told me he'd thought of this already. But y...

Surprise Party, Day 8: Sunrise sampler
This weekend should be about the most boring of camp. Normally in the first week of camp, you write about newcomers (Milton Bradley, Josh Hamilton, check) and set up whatever position competition there is (Catchers, Jason Botts vs. Nelson Cruz, check). In between there is usually a little flurry of n...

Young arms showing promise in Cincinnati
It was awfully hard for Cincinnati Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky to deal Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers with Ken Griffey aging and Adam Dunn a potential free agent, but he came away with Edinson Volquez, Texas's top pitching prospect, to go along with 22-year-old Johnny Cueto, so he's e...
