We could still WIN A SERIES
So yesterday's 2-1 loss was certainly a bit disappointing for the Pirates, especially after Ross Ohlendorf's good outing in what might be his last start of 2009. Well, it was at least as disappointing as losses get for teams like the Pirates this late in the season, I suppose. What's important now is that they can still win their first series in what seems like at least...
Game 149: Reds 10 Pirates 4
This game was disgusting. I turned it off for about an hour after the Reds five-run fifth inning because watching that inning nearly made me physically ill. I'm not kidding. It's almost as if the Pirates players read my post about ERA this morning and went out of their way to prove that it can be a virtually meaningless stat. With the bases loaded and one out, Paul Janish...

Charlie Morton: How Good Is He?
This question comes into sharper focus after the Pirates' two defeats over the weekend, even with solid starts by veteran starters.
But Charlie Morton, one of the three players acquired from the Atlanta Braves for Nate McLouth last spring, pitched a seven-inning, one-run start against the San Diego Padres in PNC park on Friday night. That's very good.
He also opened a game...
