Right now, the Orioles starting rotation is in serious flux. With the struggles of Guthrie, Eaton, Penn and whoever else you want to sent in this sentence (with the exception of Koji Uehara), the lack of viable arms who can perform consistently is causing a lot of consternation amongst fans and those on sports talk radio. Aside from Uehara, and the number one starter, Guthrie, everything else in the rotation is up in the air. I guess the team really needs to see what they in Hayden Penn (out of options) and whose career has been marred by bad luck and immaturity -- however, he may earn a starting rotation spot; Alfredo Simon, who has emerged as a hard-throwing option worth a look, and Adam Eaton along with Mark Hendrickson are the remaining candidates for the last three spots. Rich Hill, from the looks of it, will start the season on the disabled list. Whatever takes place, the pitching situation is probably the top story line going into April. While there are still guys like Pedro ...

And The Fifth Starter Is... (Drum Roll)
In what could be considered a minor upset, Chan Ho Park has defeated a field of pitchers to win a position in the Phillies starting rotation. When Park signed in January, it came amid some controversy when he told a Korean newspaper he would have a chance to compete for the job. Consider it settled after distancing himself from the pack with a very solid spring. It was...

Marlins Trade For Penn
The Marlins traded second baseman Robert Andino to the Orioles for pitcher Hayden Penn. Both Penn and Andino have long term upside, so it will be interesting to see how they adjust to the change. Both players were out minor league options, so it's safe to say that both Penn and Andino will make their respective Opening Day rosters. This story was approved by MLB Rumors.
More Like Hendrick-Gone
So I'll admit it, I am a little bit sad that the Dodgers won't be bringing back Mark Hendrickson.
It's not like I really think he's a good pitcher or anything, but he was basically like half of my material last year.
I truthfully think that my columns are going to start getting a whole lot less [......
Hayden Penn Traded to Marlins
The folks at Right Off Russell sum up the Baltimore Orioles trade of Hayden Penn best:
The Orioles made the move, in all likelihood, because they felt Penn had not pitched well enough to even secure a bullpen spot and felt he would claimed by another team if he was waived. The Orioles were able to [...]
Hendrickson shelled in Opening Day loss to Mets
From the “who didn’t see this coming?” file: Marlins starter Mark Hendrickson gave up six runs in five innings while Mets Johan Santana pitched seven innings of three hit baseball, leading New York to a 7-2 victory over Florida on Opening Day Monday.
Hendrickson was effective early,...
Simon Impresses, but O's Lose; AL East Thoughts into '09
Although the Orioles lost 2-1 to the Mets last night, they got a nice little surprise from Alfredo Simon, who started the game last night for Baltimore. I guess it is safe to assume -- at least from what I have seen -- that Simon will make the rotation, presumably as the fifth starter. Simon -- who is actively looking to make the rotation out of Spring Training -- was impressive...
Jenkins Out, Park In
Phils Release JenkinsThe Phils wasted a lot of money on Geoff Jenkins, but unlike other wasted signing Adam Eaton, I'm sorry to see Jenkins go. It's amazing what a World Championship will do for a perspective...Anyways, here is my concern with letting Jenkins and his $8 million walk - what do the Phils do when Ibanez and/or Victorino and/or Werth heads to the DL? Currently...

Hudson Looks To Right The Ship
After falling hard to the Marlins (8-5) last night, the Braves (5-8) look to Tim Hudson (2-0, 2.14) to get them back on track with a mark in the win column. The big question is, however, can the Braves get their offense going against Mark Hendrickson (2-1, 4.15) tonight? As seen against the Marli...
