The Redshirt Senior:
Unlike the rest of the pollsters, The Señior isn't ready to return Michigan to the rankings, despite a thrilling win over Notre Dame. Here's why: through two games, the Wolverines have beaten a MAC team (Western Michigan) and an Irish team whose last two wins came against WAC opponents.Look, Tate Forcier looks like he may be the real deal and obviously Rich Rodriguez has made strides in Year 2, but we seem to get too caught up in how good it is for college football to have Michigan back in the limelight after last season's debacle, than rationalizing that first the Wolverines have to earn that return by beating real teams and teams who have actually beaten someone. They won't get any help in that department this week against Eastern Michigan, so despite what the Wolvies do, I'm not ranking them next week either.
Wake me up in another week when Michigan gets to Big Ten play, although if you ask most people, beating one of the Wolverines conference opponents is akin to beating MAC and WAC schools anyway.
On to this week's rankings:
1. Florida 2-0
2. Texas 2-0
3. Alabama 3-0
4. USC 2-0
5. Penn State 2-0
6. Mississippi 1-0
7. Brigham Young 2-0
8. California 2-0
9. LSU 2-0
10. Boise State 2-0
11. Ohio State 1-1
12. Georgia Tech 2-0
13. TCU 1-0
14. Cincinnati 2-0
15. Utah 2-0
16. Oklahoma 1-1
17. Virginia Tech 1-1
18. Oklahoma State 1-1
19. Nebraska 2-0
20. Miami (FL) 1-0
21. Kansas 2-0
22. Houston 2-0
23. Georgia 1-1
24. North Carolina 2-0
25. Texas Tech 2-0

The Seat Just Got Hotter for Charlie Weis, Cooler for Rich Rodriguez
Hard to believe after the way I ripped Rich Rodriguez that I had to root for him to win on Saturday, but that was the case. People are saying the game was an instant classic and it surely was a good one, but was it as good as the Bush Push game? Not [...]
Rodriguez has no interest in return to rankings
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Rich Rodriguez says he doesn't care that No. 25 Michigan is ranked in The Associated Press poll for the first time with him on the sideline.
Blog Ten Gameday: Wolverines Trail Notre Dame 20-17 At Half
Still, I wouldn’t let the score fool you. While it appears that Michigan’s offense is back in Rich Rodriguez’s second year in Ann Arbor, their defense isn’t playing nearly as well as they did against Western Michigan. In reality the Irish are just playing pitch and catch as Jimmy Clausen just keeps dropping back and launching deep balls to Michael Floyd and Golden Tate...
Rich Rodriguez gets first signature win at Michigan
Beating a ranked Notre Dame team on a national stage and in come-from-behind fashion makes this victory more significant than last year's triumph over Wisconsin.
Tate Forcier is U-M's star, but Denard Robinson still in mix
"He's going to be more and more of a factor," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said about quarterback Denard Robinson during U-M's Monday press conference.

I'm not one for eloquent writing...actually, more the opposite. But what I saw on Saturday...actually on Sunday night because I was out of town all weekend for a wedding, was nothing short of simply amazing.
News sites, television, blogs...everyone has been going crazy about how awesome it was to beat Notre Dame. And this site will be no...
Coaches teaching civ pro
I still am trying to get more legally oriented reports and documents, but it appears that the breach-of-contract dispute between the University of Kentucky and former men's basketball coach Billy Gillespie is going to turn into another object lesson in civ pro.In July, Gillespie sued the University of Kentucky Athletics Association in federal court in Texas (where, presumably...
The 'Rich Rodriguez offense' turns a corner
There was an ESPN graphic last night comparing Michigan's offense through the Wolverines' first two games to Michigan's offense last year, which is somewhat instructive but also somewhat ludicrous to anyone who's been paying attention: Even before we knew Tate Forcier was arriving in nearly-finished form, there wasn't really any comparison between last year'...
The New Face of Michigan Football
Before college football season started, many fans were wondering what to expect from Michigan. After the worst season in school history in 2008, many fans were skeptical that Rich Rodriguez was the right fit in Ann Arbor.
I myself was a bit apprehensive of having the spread offense at Michigan. When I think of Michigan I think of smash mouth Pittsburgh Steeler style of football....
Whoa Nelly! This Wolverine Team is Much Better than Advertised
Michigan certainly looked like a good football team after the 31-7 drubbing of Western Michigan in the season opener. And after watching the Wolverines vanquish the Irish this past Saturday in the Big House, all doubt in my mind has been erased. This team is going to a bowl game this year.Six wins and a bowl appearance seemed to be the measuring stick for Big Blue this season. Anything...
Rodriguez Earns Signature Win Over Notre Dame
by John WaltersFiled under: Michigan, Notre DameRich Rodriguez earned his first signature victory at the University of Michigan. Charlie Weis is still in search of his. Armando Allen rushed for a career-high 141 yards, Jimmy Clausen threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, and still the Irish found a way to break their own hearts in a 38-34 loss to Michigan. Wolverine freshman quarterback...
Tate Forcier - Nicely Done Young Man!
I remember Bill Parcells unleashing one of his many classic coaching comments after a great performance by Tony Romo back in 2006... 'Lets not enshrine him in Canton or the Ring of Honor just yet fella's... OK!" in his classic south Bergen County NJ accent.Well on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Michigan it was hard not to start thinking about a great future ahead for...
Blog Ten Gameday: A Star Is Born In Ann Arbor
A few weeks ago Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez said that he planned on playing three quarterbacks this season: Nick Sheridan, Denard Robinson and Tate Forcier. This week, after seeing the way his three signal callers played against Western Michigan, he decided to stick with Robinson and Forcier. Well, if Rich was watching his team beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 38-34 in a thrilling game
