The New York Post is reporting that the Mets have signed infielder Jose Valentin to a minor league contract. If Valentin makes the big league club he will earn $800,000, which is a very affordable price considering the uncertainty surrounding who will play second base. Valentin’s best year with the Mets, in which he played in 137 games and hit .271 with 18 home runs.
