- IMG has beefed up it's company by acquiring Host Communications. [IMG to acquire Host Communications] Host provides marketing services for the NCAA and many Division 1 Universities. This is a massive acquisition for IMG, and bucks the trend of large agencies shifting to individual sports.
- In a bid to increase their medal tally in Beijing, the Canadian Olympic Committee has announced that medal winners will receive cash prizes. $20,000 for Gold, $15,000 for Silver and $10,000 for Bronze. [Cash for medals 'not an incentive' Canada's Olympians insist] However, it is not an incentive for many athletes, despite many of the athletes making little income from their sport.
- Move over FedEx Cup, Dubai is attempting to become the finale of the golf season. The European Tour is planning a season-ending golf tournament worth $20 million, the richest on any tour. [European Tour's richest event ever at $20 million...

Alex Cora hurts his elbow
More injury news.. Alex Cora hurt his throwing elbow during pre-game warmups today. There hasn't been any mention yet as to how bad it is or if he can play or not. He's the only backup infield position player left while Casey is starting in place of the injured Mike Lowell.

He's back.
Manny Ramirez returned triumphantly to the Red Sox lineup last night, batting second for the first time since 1995. Ramirez promptly singled to right field and came around to score on a double by Mike Lowell, temporarily holding down Manny's cleanup spot.
