The "Who did Kerry Wood Strike Out?" Quiz

Posted August 11, 2008 on Jeff's Blog:
On May 6, 1998 twenty-year old Kerry Wood recorded 20 K's against the Houston Astros. It was just Wood's fifth career start. Every batter in the starting lineup struck out at least once, as did the only pinch hitter Wood faced. Can you name every Astro that struck out that day in 5 minutes or less?

Vladimir Guerrero Lied About His Age, I’m Still Not Convinced He’s Not 40

Under pressure from ESPN reporting last year, Houston Astros SS Miguel Tejada finally admitted he was two years older than what he had told MLB all along. That in turn persuaded Julio Franco to come out and admit he was really in his 50s when he played his last years of pro ball with [...]

Figgins Gets 6, Lackey Still on 10

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had a tough one last night against the Houston Astros as John Lackey went for his MLB leading 11th win. As lackey seemed off his game early, allowing 6 runs before getting the hook in the 5th, the story of the game became Chone Figgins. Having stuggled since returning from the DL, Figgins had a historic night. His 6-6 night, which included...

Houston, we have a major rotation problem

Heading into the 2008 season, the Houston Astros’ starting rotation consisted of Roy Oswalt, Brandon Backe, Wandy Rodriguez, Shawn Chacon, and Chris Sampson. That is to say, it consisted of Roy Oswalt and four question marks. So far, however, Roy Oswalt has also been more of a mystery than a ce...

Kerry Wood: Fire Walk With Me

He came into our lives at the velocity of a 99 MPH fastball from close range. It was his manifest destiny; it was our fate, our hope. In 1998 we watched and were held speechless as he struck out 20 Houston Astros in merely his 5th professional start. Captivated and mesmerized, we soon realized the good lord had placed Kerry Wood here for a reason.

Brewers take game, series from Astros

For years the Houston Astros were famous for their Killer B's of Bagwell, Biggio and Berkman. On Sunday afternoon, the Brewers found their own B's to pull out another victory: Bush, Braun and the bench. Dave Bush went seven innings for the second time this season and he did it in consecutive starts. Early on it looked like it could be a typical Dave Bush start. He gave...
