Actor Eddie Murphy famously once said, "I'm a karate man! And a karate man bruises on the inside! They don't show their weakness." That little jewel of Zen-like wisdom can be applied to Seattle’s favorite Japanese philosopher and right fielder Ichiro Suzuki.
Ichiro played in his first game last night since being placed on the 15-day DL with a bleeding ulcer. Looking at him last night you wouldn’t have known he was ever injured. But maybe the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching staff thought Ichiro was weakened because of his injured insides. Maybe they thought they could hang a curveball and get away with it. And that's what Ichiro wants you to think. Just when it looks like you’ve got him on the mat, he strikes back with deadly precision.
Showing no weakness, Ichiro took a 3-2 breaking ball and deposited it into the right field stands for a grand slam last night as the Mariners throttled the Angels 11-3. The home run capped a seven-run seventh inning and put the game out of reach for the Angels. You can read the rest of this article on Assist by The Mitten.

But You Can Get A "Gallo" Jersey...
After seeing the stories float about today where people can't get a clothing item honoring Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart ((thanks to the guy who sent the first message to Daulerio over at Deadspin)), we decided to do a little experimenting to see what we could get away with under the MLB.com system for personalizing...This was the item that stuck out to us the most...
Wall Street Journal Lucky That Tony LaRussa Didn't Have to Kick its Ass
On their regular sports page Thursday, the Wall Street Journal takes a look at some of baseball's arguably "bad ideas." Included is the strategy of having the pitcher bat eighth, which a certain St. Louis Cardinals manager routinely did the past couple years but this year has said he will do more sporadically.
Several statisticians who have studied the matter...

Costas Set for MLB Broadcast Return at Yankee Stadium Opener

Strange Fruit, Pt. 4: Congratulations, Cub Fans
In today’s Sun Times, Gordon Wittenmeyer pulls the curtains back from the dark underbelly of Wrigley Field: the bleachers, that last bastion of beer-fueled bigotry. We’re often sold a bill of goods about the bleachers, that they are some idyllic sun-drenched playground.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
The truth is that bleachers are the largest beer garden...

First Pitch: Josh Beckett's Ridiculous Suspension
On Sunday afternoon in Orange County there was a bit of a scrum between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels. Well, it was a scrum in the sense of a fight in baseball. Benches emptied, players shoved and yelled at each other, and eventually everybody went back to the dugout and finished their bags of sunflower seeds. All because Josh Beckett took exception to Bobby Abreu calling a timeout
And I Got Mad Hits Like I Was Rod Carew
If we were in Japan right now, Ichiro Suzuki's record-tying hit Wednesday would be a very, very big deal. I mean, it's still a pretty big deal, but it was sort of over-shadowed by the awesomeness of Ken Griffey Jr.'s 400th bomb as a Seattle Mariner.
