Last night was a perfect example of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" for the Boston Red Sox.The Red Sox had a commanding lead, blew it, couldn't rally, blew it some more, and eventually lost to the Kansas City Royals. The New York Yankees bowed to the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics, which means the Sox could have gained a game in the American League East and also lowered its magic number to clinch the Wild Card to six.But that didn't happen.Terry Francona opted to go to the struggling Manny Delcarmen to relieve starter Tim Wakefield and everything fell apart. Why does Francona do this?He did it with John Smoltz. It took eight starts and five losses later for him to realize that this wasn't going to work out.He also did it with Brad Penny. But Penny's situation wasn't as tragic at the beginning, however by August 21, in a 20-11 loss to the Yankees where he lasted only four innings while giving up eight runs on 10 hits, that w...

Manny Delcarmen? You SUCK!

Manny Delcarmen BLOWS. He cannot pitch his way out of a paper bag which is wet & open. WHY does he remind me of the TOTALLY-USELESS ARMANDO BENITEZ? He couldn't find the Pope in Vatican City, let alone find home plate. ...

KC 5, BOS 1: Byrd Gets His Wings Clipped In First

Seven sterling innings could not undo the wrongs of the first inning, as the Red Sox lose the second game of a four game series to the Kansas City Royals, 5-1. Red Sox starter Paul Byrd gave up five earned runs in the first inning, a deficit from which the Red Sox could not recover. To his credit, Byrd composed himself and ended up maintaining those five earned runs over 6.2 strong...

Top 3 troublesome spots for Red Sox in playoffs

Two Sundays from now, we'll be readying for our tilt with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League Division Series. Boston just finished up a three-game tilt with the Mike Scioscia-led Angels, winning two out of three games. (The Red Sox lost the last game on a passed third strike at the hands of Varitek, who had a similar foul up in Wednesday's comeback win.) ...

G148: Sox Sweep Reduces Magic Number To Seven, 9-3

We are all familiar with the old maxim: pitching and defense win championships. If the saying is true, then it is also true that the Red Sox are currently playing championship-caliber baseball. Yesterday, in Baltimore, recently-returned Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed three runs over 5 1/3 IP to lead his ballclub to a 9-3 win [...]

Post-Game 150 Thread: Thumping Timmy

DODGERS 6, GIANTS 2 Good night, sweet Giants. The Dodgers greeting a tired Tim Lincecum today almost as rudely as they did Brad Penny yesterday, combined with another Rockies win, has effectively killed San Francisco's playoff chances. Today's offensive heroes are all-of-a-sudden-but-not-really MVP candidate Andre Ethier (with a two-run homer, his 31st, in the third inning...
