Detroit 5, Minnesota 6 (box) Final Record 86-77 (second place) Devastation.  That’s what I felt Tuesday night as the Twins celebrated following their 12th inning walk off, that’s what I’m feeling Wednesday morning as I write this. The back and forth nature of this game made it a classic.  The stakes made it one of the greatest in recent memory.  As a Tiger fan, I think it may be easy to get so wrapped up in the disappointment of losing and miss that this was one of the great games in the last several years. Resurrecting the Ghosts of Twins Past: A Recap of Detroit at Minnesota – Game 163

Game 163 would prove to be a extra-inning thriller in the final regular season ballgame ever to be played in the Metrodome. Alexi Casilla's 12th-inning hit drove in the winning run as Minnesota took the AL Central Crown. But that barely scratches the surface of the drama and storylines involved with this classic title fight.

Tigers' Leyland says shame on us for not winning

Jim Leyland says the Detroit Tigers have no one to blame but themselves for losing a three-game lead in the AL Central with four scheduled games left. That doesn't change how Detroit's manager felt Wednesday about a key moment in the 163rd game of the season. Brandon Inge's jersey was grazed by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 12th inning at Minnesota, but the...

Walks Finally Hurt

Delmon Young walked with one out in the sixth, then stole second. After a strikeout, Brendan Harris pinch hits and triples off the wall in left-center to put the Twins up 1-0. It took six walks for the Twins to get a run, but that’s all they get as Punto grounds out to [...]

Horrible Call

Joe Mauer hits a ball down the leftfield line that ticks off Melky Cabrera’s glove and lands in fair territory. It touched his glove in fair territory. The umpire called it foul. What’s going on in these division series? Mauer ends up singling up the middle, but he should of had [...]

The More Things Change

Whether it was sleep deprivation or the ghosts, it didn’t matter that the Twins had won 17 of 21 or had just emerged victorious from the game of the year, because this Derek Jeter is still Derek Jeter, this was still October and this was still New York. Minnesota remains winless at the new Stadium (0-8), after dropping Game 1 of the American League Division Series to the Bombers...
