5. In a typical Evil Empire move, the Yankees invite Willie Randolph as a guest to the All-Star Game.
4. The Boss makes an appearance. Love him or hate him, George Steinbrenner is a legendary New York sports figure. It was cool to see him back at Yankee Stadium.
3. Local rivals accidentally stir the pot. Chase Utley drops an F bomb. Jonathan Papelbon kind of, sort of, thought he should be the American League closer. If these two played for the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals respectively, it wouldn't be a big deal. But they don't, so of course these are earth shattering events in New York. By the way Chase, on behalf of Mets fans, the feeling is mutual.
2. The actual All-Star Game. It was good that it wasn't a glorified softball game, and there were flashes of real baseball (The American League swiped 6 bases, Nate McLouth's outfield assist to keep the game tied). However, 15 innings is 6 innings too much for an All Star Game. I will refrain from discussing Billy Wagner blowing the game for the National League.
1. Josh Hamilton. His feel good story and power were on display as he put on a show in the Home Run Derby. All-Star Week was his national coming out party.

Hamilton as a Hero? Allow Me To Retort
My colleague Spencer Kyte has written an article critical of my criticism of the media attention and hero status being heaped upon Josh Hamilton. Mr. Kyte makes a good case about what a remarkable achievement it is for Hamilton to have recovered from the depths to which he sank, and how difficult that must have [...]
Willie Mays Doesn’t Shake Hands With Crackheads, (or thinks Josh Hamilton is the tooth fairy)
I can never resist getting in one last lick on a dead horse — so while we've all been riveted by Kyte and Lenartz's back and forth about Josh "Winehouse" Hamilton and his portrayal in the media of late — I have to throw this out there.
I think Hef of Major League Jerk lassoed this [...]
Billy Wagner to be looked at on Sunday .
We might have to wait a little longer to see Billy Wagner to Close out a game. Not good
inGame: Mets 6, Phillies 3
There was no mystery whether Billy Wagner would be available for Wednesday night's game. Before the media could start asking questions, Wagner jumped in saying, "I'm going tonight," he told the media about an hour before the game. "Give you all something to write about."
Then, with the Mets leading 6-3 heading to the ninth inning, like clockwork, the...
Don’t You Know It’s Rude to Interrupt?
You had to know that I was going to have something to say about Andy Lenartz' piece I Hate to Interrupt the Josh Hamilton Lovefest, But…
After all, I am the guy who has been championing Josh Hamilton's return from the very beginning.

The New and Improved Mike Pelfrey
The starting pitcher on the mound at Shea last night was challenging hitters, throwing strikes and thriving with confidence. Yes, that was Mike Pelfrey. He went an impressive eight innings, struck out a career-high eight batters, walked only two and let in one run. He made it into the ninth inning for the first time in his career, and almost picked up the win (thanks, Billy Wagner...
MLB All-Star Cheers And Jeers
What up Yardbarkers? Back from a little va-cay and wanted to chime in with some cheers and jeers for the All-Star game and whatnot. Feel free to bark in your own.
Cheers to Terry Francona. I have to give Terry Francona a lot of credit as he exhibited a lot of class with how he managed and respected the Yankees during the game. It was real classy to pull A-Rod and Jeter...
Morneau Wins Derby, But Hamilton Steals the Spotlight
Last night was "not a good night for atheists" R.Reilly ESPN
At the end of Monday night's 2008 All Star Home Run Derby, Twins 1B Justin Morneau won the title, but Texas CF Josh Hamilton, a born-again Christian, won the hearts of thousands with his heroic first round performance. His climb to the major leagues is a storybook ending, fraught with stumbling blocks that...
Reactions To Duaner’s Departure
As most Mets fans have heard by now, the club has released relief pitcher, Duaner Sanchez. As much as this surprises me, I cannot say that this is all that unexpected. In 2006, Duaner Sanchez was brought over from the Dodgers to set-up for Billy Wagner. In the months prior to his injury, Sanchez was phenomenal and only allowed 16 earned runs in 55 innings. However, things never...
Glavine Notches 299
Last night Tom Glavine moved one step closer to the history books, winning his career 299th game as the Mets beat the Pirates 6-3. Paul Lo Duca helped Glavine's cause, going two-for-four with four RBIs. Glavine went six innings and allowed three runs before turning the game over to Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner, who picked up his twenty-third save of the season.
In what...
Will The Real New York Mets Please Stand Up
The 2008 season has been one of endless frustration for Mets fans. Every time it seems like the team is heading in one direction, we do a 180. Inconsistency, unreliability and uncertainty has made this year an endless 4 months of stress. Now, with possible injuries to Billy Wagner and John Maine, things are looking worse.
Utley Expected to be Ready by Opening Day
With the top story in baseball being the debate whether or not Alex Rodriguez should have surgery to repair a labrum tear in his hip, maybe ARod should talk to Phillies second baseman Chase Utley. Utley, who went under the knife in November for a similar surgery was originally expected to be out 4-6 months. [...]
Quotable: Chase's Hip Responds Well in Minor League Spring Action
Comcast's John Finger is in Florida for a few weeks to keep tabs on the Phils, and today he reports that Chase Utley got some game action in. Playing both sides of a minor league game, Chase got four ABs and four innings of defense in, going 2-4 with a ground-rule double and two Ks. When asked about his progress in recovering from hip surgery, Chase responded favorably.“Everything...
Bullpen, offense fail sliding Phillies
Brett Myers has been nearly unstoppable since his stint in the minors, posting an ERA below 2 and striking out batters at a high rate. Myers finally looked human today against the Marlins as he gave up 4 runs, but he still pitched well enough to give the Phillies a chance to win. Unfortunately, the offense came up small for the Phils and the bullpen imploded in the late innings as...
