I’m sure both GMs feel like they won because of the contracts they unloaded. This one could really go lop-sided either way, or it could end up being helpful or inconsequential to both sides. Chances are we’ll know by mid-season if there was a winner. Here’s to hoping it’s the Rockies in a landslide.
And landslide it is for Dan O’Dowd. Even Minnesota’s election officials and Supreme Court wouldn’t need eight months of hearings to reach that conclusion.
Marquis acknowledges an appreciative and intelligent St. Louis Cardinal fanbase.

Less Productive Leadoff Hitters Are Better?
Someone named Kent Sterling in a place called Indianapolis at a radio station called "The Fan" has ideas about making the Cubs better, and they involve Jake Fox catching and then moving to left field, Alfonso Soriano playing second base, and some other things.
His thoughts include:
The really good teams of the past for the Cubs ('84, '89, '03), had prototypical...
Bradley's Second Half
It's no secret that Cubs management and fans have had their fill of "Milton Bradley Drama" during the first half of the 2009 campaign. Whether he's bumping umpires, smashing Gatorade coolers, or leaving the ballpark mid-game, no one can say that they're surprised by his behavior. However, even the most stringent Bradley cynic would have a hard time arguing that he wasn't starting...
Roundtable: Aramis Ramirez
Aramis Ramirez hasn’t looked that good and more importantly than that he’s looked like he’s playing in a great deal of pain. Is this something he just needs to play through or should the Cubs take a few weeks and put him on the DL to see if that gets him closer to 100%? Or is this just to be expected after missing 2 months?

Series Preview: Chicago Cubs (43-43) v Washinton Natinals (26-61)
Finally, some baseball that counts is going to be played again! Wednesday felt like the slowest day of the year. The Cubs kick off a short east coast roadtrip against the Natinals, who have an execrable .299 (!!) winning percentage. Actually, oddly enough their stats look eerily similar to the Brewers. They are tied for the 5th-best offense in the NL (wOBA of .332), and their pitchers...

Rich Harden allowed three hits over six innings, Derrek Lee homered and the Chicago Cubs beat Washington 6-2 on Thursday night, spoiling the debut of Nationals' interim manager Jim Riggleman. Harden (6-6), who had won only one of his previous seven starts, improved to 4-1 on the road. He allowed an unearned run, walked none and struck out seven, including Adam Dunn three times.
Bankruptcy Won't Exempt Cubs From Contracts
The Tribune Co. may take the Cubs to bankruptcy to complete the sale of their team to the Ricketts family, but the club still be responsible for its players' contracts, according to David Roeder and Fran Spielman of the Chicago Sun-Times. Major league baseball guarantees payment on player deals, so the Cubs won't be able to avoid contracts like Alfonso Soriano's and...
