Found December 25, 2007 on SporTech Matter:
While no one is going to come in and replace Miguel Cabrera's offensive production, the Marlins have begun the search of finding his replacement. At this point it looks like any warm body who can somewhat play is going to get a chance. After reading about a rumor of the Marlins signing both Jose Castillo and Jorge Cantu from a reader on MB.com, I became skeptical. As of yesterday, it was official. The Marlins signed ex Pittsburgh Pirate utility infielder Jose Castillo to a one year contract. Here's Rotowold's take? Castillo is a solid choice for a rebuilding team, as he still has some upside, but the Marlins will want to add one more infield option, perhaps Dallas McPherson or Jorge Cantu, to battle for the starting job at third base. The soon-to-be 27-year-old Castillo is a career .256/.297/.380 hitter. He's currently at .370/.395/.591 in 181 at-bats in the Venezuelan Winter League. The signing of Castillo places Florida's 40-man roster at 39. Happy Holidays!

Cabrera, Tigers Strike $153 M. Deal

$153.3 million over eight years. Not too shabby for a guy some experts were calling "fat" and "a butcher" at third base. Although it's hard to disagree with the latter, Miguel Cabrera is definitely an elite hitter now and for many years into the future. The contract is the fourth largest in MLB histo...

Slow start to 2008

So it's been a slow start to 2008 for blogging. Guess I've been too busy (minor understatement). But spring is here and spring training is under way. Indians Close In On D.R. Prospect?

The Indians are reportedly closing in on a contract with 16-year old prospect Edward Salcedo. Salcedo is from the Dominican Republic, and is seeking a big contract because his agent is the famous Scott Boras. Boras, among other scouts, have compared him to Miguel Cabrera and Alex Rodriguez. "This is ...

Spring Training Boxscores: Fantasy Notes

Jorge Cantu went 1-3 and is now hitting .407 this Spring. He is on the wrong side of a 3B platoon in Florida, but that should make him even more likely his will slip through the cracks of NL-Only leagues. Man, 2005 was a looooong time ago. Josh Barfield hit his 1st HR this Spring and...

Odds and Ends: Santana, Cabrera, Kapler

A few good reads that I didn't know how to fit elsewhere. LENIII does a Johan Q&A. I can't say much has changed but he does dissect the situation well. Mike DiGiovanna also does a mailbag, with tidbits about Howie Kendrick, Miguel Cabrera, Paul Konerko, and many others. I know I ...

Opening Day!

(11:00 am PDT - Pregame warmup) Tigers and Royals are the only game going so far. Here are a few early trends I'd like to see continue: Ivan Rodriguez is 0-1 throwing out runners trying to steal, Miguel Cabrera is 0-2 at the plate and 0-1 on throws to first. One I'd like to jinx: Justin Verlander ...
