The biggest concern with this catching tandem is their durability, last year Brian Schneider was injury plagued and when forced into regular use Ramon Castro is always hurt. While last year for Schneider was unusual in regards to the amount of time he missed, one the biggest reasons I thought it would be a good idea to get a more consistent back-up was in case this is what Schneider is and he's starting to break down. I think if the Mets are forced to call-up Cancel or Rivera we'll find out that there's a reason why they are career AAAA players. Brian Schneider is already experiencing pain in his knee, lucky it's spring training where there are numerous catchers, otherwise Castro would be on the clock, the injury clock that is........The Mets await word on the condition of catcher Brian Schneider, who was examined Wednesday off-site after experiencing pain and stiffness behind and above his right knee. Not scheduled to play against the Braves, Schneider spent most of his time at the...

Injury Update: Schneider & Wright....

It's being reported that Brian Schneider is out indefinitely with strains to his knee and calf. While the team and Schneider continue to down play the extent of the injury, it still has to be discerning that a catcher who had injury problems last year is already on the shelf. Last year many of Schneider's struggles were attributed to his injuries and lack of playing time...

Mets.com reports that the Mets await word on the condition of catcher Brian Schneider, who was examined Wednesday off-site after experiencing pain and stiffness behind and above his right knee. Not scheduled to play against the Braves, Schneider spent most of his time at the complex in the trainer's room. He appeared to be walking normally. He had experienced the pain when he arrived...

Is Pudge the answer....

I'm surprised to hear that the Mets might be in the market for a new catcher. Brian Schneider was a target of Omar Minya's, who was familiar with his work since he was his GM in Montreal. I remember last off-season the Mets were willing to give up offense at the catchers position for a defensive minded catcher who worked well with pitcher's. My understanding is that the...

New Years Resolutions for the 2008 Mets

Anyway, with New Years coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to go through the organization and create some New Years resolutions for everyone, so here it goes… Omar Minaya: To get a decent player under 40 this off season. Willie Randolph: To stop being overly confident in players who have large contracts. Brian Schneider: To make Mets fans forget about Lastings Milledge...

Behind the plate, the Mets are going to look basically the same as last year. Met's fans are hoping Schneider will improve upon his hitting this year (.257, 9 HR, 38 RBI). Schneider is one of the better defensive catchers in the league - and strong defense up the middle is prevalent among championship teams. He is also is known to call a good game. There has been much speculation...

The 25th Man

The Mets figure to carry 12 pitchers, so with a regular at each position, that leaves 5 reserve spots on the team. Backup catcher Ramon Castro and outfielder Endy Chavez are certain to make the team. It's also extremely likely that veteran utility men Damion Easley (righthanded hitter) and Marlon And...
