TEAMS: Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, New York Mets
Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb faced another setback in his attempts to return from the disabled list with shoulder problems. Webb was playing catch when he felt the discomfort, and the Diamondbacks were forced to cancel his bullpen session and shut him down indefinitely. The Diamondbacks were hoping Webb would be ready to go on a rehab assignment sometime next week, but are now forced to wait until the pain subsides.
The Diamondbacks do not have much in their minor league system, and do not have much money to spend, so they could fall out of contention if Webb is out for an extended amount of time. Pedro Martinez is available. Mark Mulder is available. Paul Byrd, Shawn Chacon, and Tony Armas Jr. are available. The Diamondbacks need to decided if one of those pitchers is worth the investment during these unstable times financially.

Webb out at least six more weeks
Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb is off to a remarkable start. He’s done remarkably well in damaging the D-Backs’ chances of winning the NL West and has performed even better in ruining the pitching for my fantasy team. What was originally a “precautionary” stint on the DL, Webb is now full-on sidelined for at least [...]

Byrd Interested In Angels?
Free agent pitcher Paul Byrd is reportedly interested in joining the Angels, the LA Times is reporting. The report goes on to say that the Angels do not have much interest in signing Byrd, mostly because they are not looking to add money to their payroll. Sources: Interest in Pedro heating up
Pedro Martinez could be coming soon to a ballpark near you.
They've Kicked the Tires.
"Unless we got to a point where the price makes sense to us, we're very satisfied with what we've got in our rotation. It's really young, but we think it's got a lot of upside...That (Martinez) would give us depth at the right number. We've kicked the tires a few times. But it hasn't really gone anywhere past that."(Mike Rizzo, via FOXSports...
Time to Panic
The Arizona Diamondbacks are 6-11, with 14 of those contests coming in their home ballpark. The team is near the bottom in every major offensive category (last in on-base-percentage) and also ranks near the bottom in many bullpen statistics. Brandon Webb has been shut down for another 3 weeks and now Stephen Drew - one of their more consistent players - is on the 15-day DL. Haren...
Brandon Webb Probably Out For The Year Thanks To Me
His shoulder is still messed up."Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb experienced a setback Friday in his attempt to recover from shoulder problems that have sidelined him since his opening-day start."Why am I giving myself credit for this, you ask? Well because I dropped 30 dollars (my most expensive buy) on him in my Fantasy Baseball Auction Keeper League. I also credit...

(by Mike Henderson) That's one rationale for the Nats to pick up Pedro Martinez. There are others, and the Nats should be thinking about them.

Casual Friday: Pitching Tidbits
The Yankees are all about the pinstripes, in every sense of the word. The rest of MLB is more casual. This is the latest post in a Friday series called Casual Friday, in which I take a quick look around the rest of Major League Baseball.* Good pitching stops good hitting. That saying couldn't have been more true this week in Florida where Pirates pitching cooled off a red-hot...
