Werth his weight in gold

A little over a year ago myself and most of Philadelphia had a nickname for Jayson Werth: Werthless. After his effort Friday night in the Phils 10-3 win over the Blue Jays, I will never call him that name again.

Werth had a record breaking night, hitting a home run in each of his first three at-bats in the game. He hit a 3-run homer in the 2nd, a grand slam in the 3rd and a solo shot in the 5th to give him 8 RBIs on the night, a number that ties the Phillie franchise record for RBI in a game. Werth missed a chance to add a fourth homer in the 7th inning when he fouled out.

Werth tied the Phillies team record for RBIs with 8! Most since Mike Schmidt in 1976.

What a game. Hope he keeps it up.

He is a everyday player,GM gillick knows what he has now,I AM SURPRISE THE LA DODGERS LET HIM GO,THE PHILLIES ARE A TRUE CONTENDER TO WIN EVERYTHING,IF BRETT MYERS WORKS OUT HIS MECHANICS---THAT DUDE,IS LIKE A MAZE--PITCH LIKE A STUD,THEN FALL BACK TO LOCATION ISSUES--THEY HAVE SPEED AND POWER IN LINE UP--SCARY!!!!!

Great game, good for him...he deserves it. Heres the problem though, Jenkins is not a bench and will not be happy if that becomes his new role...he made that clear when he signed on with us. Werth has gotten playing time lately due to the left handed pitchers and tonight there is a nasty righty going on burnett. As much as I would like to see Werth in there...Jenkins should be and probably will be starting in right with Victorino in center. Maybe Charlie will ride the guy while hes hot, but baseball common sense says to go with Jenkins.

This raises the question of is Jenkins will be come expendable or not. Could they perhaps use him to trade for a pitcher or another need that might arise in the upcoming months? Its a heck of a situation to be in, lets hope Werth can keep it up.

i think werths great...i wonder if playing him everyday would get him in a rhythym or if he's better used in a platoon...jenkins was always a philly killer and has a good bat and i think we're paying him 5 mill a year so will be interesting to see...dont think we'll see werth tonight, def. gonna be a good game though..go philsss..

werth should be starting every day he is much better than geoff jenkins

in my opinion it should be werths spot to lose...if he proves he doesn't deserve to be an everyday starter then atleast we will know...but the way he's been playing, he should atleast get that chance..its about wins, not whether we keep geoff friggin jenkins happyyyy!...also i want to get your guys thoughts on the chances of us re-signing burrell at the end of this season....i've been a burrell guy since miami so im bias...just want some thoughts...

Chances of resigning Burrell are pretty good if he doesn't let this fluke season go to his head. They've already had talks with him. He wants to stay in Philly, but we want somewhat of a discount for having overpaid him the past 4 seasons or so. If he can handled a 7million/yr deal, something should get done. If not..good luck on the open market.

Werth is better than Jenkins at the moment, but who knows if he can do it over the course of an entire season, that is yet ot be seen, We know that Jenkins can peform for as an everyday guy, he just needs to get out of the funk hes in right now and keeping him on the bench won't help that. I'd love to see them platoon everybody over the course of the season. Burrell/Jenkins/Werth/Victorino has got to be one of the best 4 man outfield crews in the league. Should be an exciting summer to say the least.

well thats good...i know he wants to stay here, i think they had him traded to the orioles last year but he wouldn't waive his clause...he looks more focused this year..but,like the nba, guys tend to shine in that contract year then we sign them to crazy dollars and they stop performing...kinda like aaron mckie...i'd like to see him stay but it wont be the end of the world it he goes....i agree about them having one of if not the best 4 man of crew...i know we got lidge in return, but i was sad to see bourn go...i still may look up free agents for left field for 09 to see any possible replacements...wonder if he goes will he go back to original 1b or stay in lf...he's not exactly carl crawford out there...lol..i think as long as they keep rotating, everyones happy and produces,we will be just fine...

He looks more focused because hes in a contract year. He knows he has to perform or he won't get paid. I think you're a little off base with Aaron McKie...you should have used Sammy D as an example. By using McKie you killed your argument. It sucked to see Bourn go and hes tearing it up in Houston, but if Lidge keeps being lights out...who cares. 1B???? you mean 3B where he played in college but then coverted to LF because we had Rolen?

You killed your argument by saying Michael Bourn is tearing it up in Houston. Tell me how hitting .182 with a .252 on-base percentage is tearing it up? He's been so bad at getting on base, the Astros have dropped him from the leadoff spot to the number 8 spot in the line-up. Yes, he has 18 steals, but that's all he has done. He has been a major disappointment and made the Lidge deal very lopsided.

He was last time I checked which was back when we played them...I don't follow bad teams on a daily basis.

He was not very good even when the Phillies played him. For someone who thinks he knows everything I thought you would know that!

Let me just be the first to say.. I said it last year, i Say it now. There is no better player in the LEAGUE then this man When it comes to being up the bat with people already on base.

HE always comes through when someones on base. ALways well not always but the best like ever

yeah...your right about the 3rd base...4 sum reason i kept thinking travis lee was the hold up but your right..it was rolen...and maybe sammy was a better comparison but u kinda knew what i meant...and earlier as soon as i said he's no crawford in left he made a nice 1 handed play and they threw out dood at home..lol...this guy..and rod f'n barajas is still in the league and hitting grand slams???? who knew...i was surprised to see werth starting today against burnett...
