Werth to the DL, Bohn called up

Jayson Werth took a big swing in Thursday's game against the Astros and now he finds himself on the 15 day disabled list. Werth swung hard and missed and in the process strained his right abdominal muscle. Werth has been held hitless in 13 at-bats since his huge 3 homer game on May 16th so the time off might do him good.

Non-prospect T.J. Bohn was called up from Triple A Lehigh Valley to take Werth's place. Bohn was up earlier in the year when Shane Victorino went down and hit a mere .143 although he did hit a homer in 14 at-bats. I would expect So Taguchi to get more playing time until Werth comes back.

Hope he is not out too long.

Jayson Werth's swing is the thing that will prevent him from being an every day player (145+ games). He's a tremendous 4th outfielder, but when he starts for prolonged periods of time his long looping swing is exposed and you can pitch around contact with him. I love having him on the team, but I'm not fooled into thinking he's starter material. Platoon yes, starter no.

Shane Victorino has also proven that he can't play every day and stay healthy, so they make a pretty good platoon partner! Basically, neither Victorino, Werth or Jenkins should be playing every day, but if rotated they can stay effective.

Jenkins CAN play every day though...he has more than proven that in his career. The only time he should be taken out is when it is in favor of a better pitching matchup. Either way, as long as Werth is on the DL..Shane and Jenkins will be every day players.

If Jenkins has to be taken out in favor of a better match-up than the pitcher then by definition he isn't an every day player.

Howard is an every day player...does he get taken out against great left handed pitchers? Yes he does, doesn't he?

Not 40 times a year like Jenkins will be. Howard is only taken out of the line-up when he is struggling.

werth has an opportunity at in my opinion as a 300 hitter 30 home runs a year guy, along with a nice amount of steals. Next year by this time he can be the first in the line up for so many other teams.

my opionion anyways

Jenkins is having a horrible year. He's turned into a singles hitter that doesn't walk, so his OPS is horrible. Over his career he's killed righties and struggled immensley against lefties, now he's struggling all around.
