PLAYERS: Oliver Perez

Yesterday the Mets finally did something about Oliver Perez.  They did not send him to the minors, nor did they put him on the disabled list after Ollie announced Sunday that his knee has been “injured” since the start of the season.  Instead Fred Wilpon and Omar Minaya flew down to Atlanta and decided along [...]

Great News, Mets Fans! Oliver Perez is Going to the Bullpen!

Rest assured Mets fans, we no longer have to endure Oliver Perez starting games for our club - at least in the short-term.Good news, right? WRONG. SO WRONG. According to Mets Blog, Jerry Manuel and crew have decided to move Ollie to the bullpen. If words on a computer screen could literally convey human emotion, these particular missives would be dripping with incredulousness (is...

Oliver Perez Blames Knee Pain, Manuel Unconvinced

Jerry Manuel met with Oliver Perez today and although nothing was resolved officially it certainly looks like Perez has temporarily lost his spot in the rotation. ESPN writes, Perez and Manuel spoke in a closed-door meeting before Sunday’s game against the Phillies was rained out. Manuel appeared like a manager leaning toward skipping Perez when asked [...]

Oliver Perez Is Mets New $36 Million Dollar LOOGY

In a surprising but predictable Mets fashion, Oliver Perez will go to the bullpen to work out his problems. It’s a terrible move for everyone involved because in effect the Mets are now working with a 24 man roster until Perez can get his act together. It would have been better to send Perez to the minors [...]

2009 Mets versus 1986 Mets

In an excellent article by John Harper of the Daily News, Harper believes that Omar Minaya has a lot to answer for should the Mets fail to make the playoffs this season despite the new 3 year contract he got from the Wilpons. Between his “we-don’t-have-an-edge” comments to Fox sports.com, which Minaya insists were misinterpreted, and Oliver Perez [...]

Perez Out Of Rotation But Where’s He Going?

After another poor outing Saturday the Mets have said that Oliver Perez will be removed from the starting rotation. Exactly where he will be going remains up in the air. There are two obvious options: move him to the bullpen or send him to the minors to work things out. Moving Perez to the [...]

Who Replaces Perez In The Rotation?

Brian Costa of the Star Ledger ponders some of the options the Mets might consider as a replacement for Oliver Perez. Ken Takahashi: The Mets liked what they saw from him Saturday, when he tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings against the Phillies in his major-league debut. He was also lights-out at Triple-A Buffalo, with just one [...]

Ollie To DL, Niese Recalled

Beleaguered Mets starter Oliver Perez will have time to sort out his 9.97 ERA, as the Mets have officially put him on the 15 day disabled list retroactive to May 3. An MRI revealed patellar tendinitis (medical translation: his kneecap hurts). Top prospect Jon Niese will be recalled from AAA Buffalo, and will make the start [...]

5/2 - The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The Phillies took advantage of another troublesome outing by Oliver Perez, only to see themselves behind after a disastrous sixth inning.  Like the Phillies have done all season, late inning heroics fueled an extra inning win, off a foe the Phillies are used to beating; the Mets bullpen.  Reliever Sean Green’s bases-loaded walk in the [...]

Nationals Series Game 3

Game 18: Nationals 8 - Mets 1 The Mets score in the first and do absolutely nothing else offensively on the day. Oliver Perez is terrible again, allowing 9 hits (including 2 home runs) and 7 earned runs in 4-1/3 innings. The Mets miss a chance to notch their first 3-game winning streak and series sweep of the season, and instead drop back to two games under .500. [Note: This...

Oliver Perez Heading To Bullpen

It has been reported that Oliver Perez is headed to the New York Mets bullpen. According to Manager Jerry Manuel, he experienced the same thing with two starters when he was manager of the Chicago White Sox - James Baldwin and Jon Garland. I guess what Jerry means is that those two pitchers had the unique ability to [...]
