Rock, Chalk, Cavs?
While other GM's were burning the midnight oil making trades for OJ Mayo, Kevin Love, Brandon Rush (!), and Mario Chalmers…Danny Ferry was adding a couple of Jayhawks.
Let's let the press release speak first- The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the draft rights to forward Darnell Jackson from the Miami Heat in exchange for the lower of the Cavaliers two second round picks in the 2009 NBA Draft. In addition, Cleveland purchased the rights to center Sasha Kaun from the Seattle SuperSonics. Jackson was selected with the 52nd overall pick by the Miami Heat while Kaun was selected with the 56th overall pick by the Seattle Sonics. Both Jackson and Kaun were four-year members of the Jayhawks and helped lead Kansas to the 2008 NCAA Championship and four straight Big 12 regular season titles. By the way, according to the Beacon Journal, Kaun is expected to play in Moscow next season. These moves are about depth. Don't look for either of these guys to contribute this year, unless we happen to have another game in which we only dress 8 players. Jackson (pictured above) was named to the All-Big 12 THIRD TEAM for goodness sakes. Perhaps they made this trade to help the Erie Bayhawks, the Cavs' D-League affiliate. That wouldn't be surprising, since the Cavs had at least four D-League participants on the roster at one time or another last year. That's right, these two have more than likely gone from being Jayhawks, to Bayhawks. Of course, there is the possibility that Jackson makes the team. Especially if Danny Ferry is looking to get rid of one or more of the current big men on the roster…
